Delivery Biology Principal Research Associate

Vertex Pharmaceuticals seeks a Principal Research Associate to design and execute molecular and cellular assays supporting non-viral gene therapy development for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The role involves building genetic constructs, optimizing in vitro assays, and generating data to advance therapeutic candidates through discovery stages.
Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and optimize in vitro assays evaluating uptake, gene expression, and delivery of non-viral therapeutics
- Build gene expression constructs using molecular biology tools and perform nucleic acid extractions and qPCR/RT-qPCR analyses
- Execute protein and cellular assays including Western blotting, ELISA, reporter assays, and cell-signaling studies
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design studies, communicate findings, and support program advancement
- Maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebook records and prepare experimental summaries and technical reports
Requirements
- Master's degree in biological sciences or related field with 8+ years relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree with 10+ years experience
- Hands-on expertise in molecular cloning, qPCR, plasmid design, and gene expression analysis
- Proficiency with protein assays including Western blotting, ELISA, MSD, and immunoprecipitation
- Experience with RNA/DNA therapeutics, lipid nanoparticles, or intracellular trafficking
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to summarize complex findings
- Experience with electronic lab notebooks, data visualization, or structured documentation
Compensation: $88,200 - $132,400 base
