POSITION PURPOSE / JOB SUMMARY The Development Assistant supports and works with the Development Director to implement, track, and manage fundraising activities that take place at SLO Classical Academy. Duties include maintaining clean records, writing and editing copy for school-wide distribution, assisting with school events, working with online giving portals as well as varied computer programs, and assisting with fundraising and community outreach programs. JOB STRUCTURE AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Part -Time, Year-Round, Non-Exempt Employee Status The Development Assistant reports to the Development Director The Development Assistant will participate on a team that requires demonstration of SLOCA’s aspirational goals EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Required: 2+ years experience in office work and administration Experience assisting with events Technology - Mac literate; proficiency in Google Suite. Preferred: An understanding of Salesforce, GoFundMe Pro, Airtable, and Active Campaign. SLOCA-specific: A willingness to learn about and support passionately the mission of SLO Classical Academy Committed to support and uphold the school’s unique makeup as non-sectarian and accessible to families and employees from various backgrounds and beliefs Clear a background check and TB screening Ability to carry out duties as described below Core Competencies: Excellent administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills Demonstrated organizational skills in handling, directing, and prioritizing multiple assignments and projects Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Ability to communicate with internal and external constituencies in a warm, professional manner, including articulating SLOCA’s message with clarity and enthusiasm Ability to develop and maintain relationships with members of the community Ability to direct and coordinate volunteers Demonstrated knowledge of, and skill in, project and event planning. Ability to be flexible with schedules and keep a pleasant demeanor with volunteers, donors, and team members Utilize computer technology for communication, data gathering, and reporting activities, such as email campaigns, web updates, donor reports, and contact management systems Analyze and interpret data, and make appropriate recommendations based on findings Work effectively with a variety of teams DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Donor and Event Support Manage all communication, promotion, and recordkeeping for annual fundraisers, including student-driven fundraisers, staff giving, and other annual events Assist in planning as well as implementation of these internal fundraising programs and events Organize the Family Fundraising Goal program, including tracking gifts, calculating family goals, and billing families with the academic year cycle Track sponsorships and assist the Development Director with securing new sponsors Provide support to donors and families with questions/comments/concerns via email, phone, and in person Manage family fundraising goal progress, including tracking and communications to families regarding goals and gifts Administrative Maintain donor database, including inputting and tracking all donations, updating donor information, and keeping data clean Develop and create giving pages, including peer-to-peer and individual giving Create and mail tax receipts Provide weekly transaction reports to the accounting team and manage the reconciliation process between database and accounting software Assist in creating email campaigns and managing distribution lists Staff members are expected to adhere to all Administrative Directives as well as any applicable SLOCA Policies, including those specifically outlined in the Employee Manual . PHYSICAL DEMANDS Working hours may vary, and occasional evening or weekend work is required. Allows for flexibility in schedule, as approved by the Development Director. Work is generally performed in an office environment with occasional interruptions and/or irregularities in the work schedule. No special physical demands beyond coordination used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials are needed to perform the job satisfactorily. Incumbents may be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
