Multimedia Journalist Reporter Arizona Public Media (AZPM) is seeking a multimedia News and Public Affairs Reporter to cover stories about Tucson and southern Arizona. You'll join a team of reporters who create unique stories about the southwest for our Southern Arizona radio, television, and online audiences. The successful candidate will be an accomplished radio, television or digital reporter who tells news stories with sound and video when possible. The reporter is able to report on topics as assigned. High‑quality work on deadline will be essential in our multimedia environment, as will the ability to work cohesively with a team, both internally with the news and production staff members and externally with partner stations. The primary assignment of this position will be reporting on business, the economy, transportation, infrastructure and development by producing daily news spots and longer‑form features. Duties & Responsibilities Research, develop, write, and produce two daily news stories for public radio and digital audiences. Develop and produce a minimum of three longer feature stories that tell deeper, bigger stories than daily coverage can accommodate. Produce high‑quality work that is accurate, fair, balanced, and professional. Operate field audio equipment and audio editing systems. Take digital photos or video for all stories for digital use. Adhere to AZPM's Code of Editorial Ethics and Practices and AZPM's Editorial Standards. Meet daily deadlines. Cultivate sources and resources in the areas of business, the economy, politics, water issues, and immigration, including connections to local government, businesses, and non‑profits, as well as exploring the connection to state and federal laws and policies, finding local stories that illustrate how changes in these policies affect local issues. Work with other editorial partners when assigned. Adapt and publish broadcast content for digital and social media platforms, incorporating audio, data visualizations, links, charts, maps, and other multimedia elements as appropriate. Substitute/back‑up anchor for radio and television newscasts on an as‑needed basis. Operate University of Arizona vehicles to travel to conduct interviews and/or capture audio. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned that are consistent with the scope, level, and responsibilities of the position. Collaborate with other AZPM reporters and producers on enterprise stories. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of journalistic ethics, standards, and best practices. Knowledge of multimedia storytelling techniques, including audio, video, and digital content production. Working knowledge of audio editing systems, online research tools, and social media platforms. Ability to research, write, edit, and produce accurate and engaging news content. Ability to conduct interviews, cultivate sources, and gather information from a variety of stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced news environment. Ability to work collaboratively with reporters, producers, editors, and external partners. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required. Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Preferred Qualifications Live on‑air radio or television news reporting experience. Experience working in a PBS, NPR, or other public media environment. Experience covering business, economic development, transportation, infrastructure, public policy, or government‑related topics. Experience producing and adapting content for digital and social media platforms. Experience incorporating data, charts, maps, and other visual elements into news reporting.
