Grand Haven Custom Molding is seeking an experienced, dependable Tool Room Technician to support our plastic injection molding operation. This hands-on position is responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving molds, dies, tools, fixtures and related equipment. The right candidate will combine strong machining skills, practical troubleshooting ability and a commitment to safe, high-quality work.

What You Will Do

• Perform preventive maintenance, die washing and polishing on plastic injection molds and dies.
• Troubleshoot and repair molds, dies, tools, jigs and fixtures; disassemble, inspect, restore and reassemble components as needed.
• Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, shapers and related tool room equipment to machine, shape and finish metal parts.
• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, models, schematics and specifications to determine materials, dimensions, machine requirements and assembly sequences.
• Measure, mark and machine stock, then verify dimensions, alignments, clearances and finished-part conformance with precision measuring equipment.
• Fit and assemble tooling components; connect wiring and hydraulic lines to injection molds; and assist with mold setup activities.
• Inspect and test completed tooling for wear, damage, proper setup and efficient operation, making approved adjustments to meet specifications.
• Safely move and position molds, dies and machined components using overhead cranes, forklifts, die carts and hoists.
• Recommend practical tooling improvements and help develop sketches or specifications for specialty tools when assigned.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety, operating and material-handling procedures.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or GED.
• Five to ten years of relevant plastic injection molding experience as a toolmaker, die maker or tool fitter, including at least three years repairing and maintaining plastic injection molding tooling.
• Experience building or repairing fixtures, jigs, dies, molds, cutting tools, gauges and other manufacturing tooling.
• Experience setting up plastic injection molding machines.
• Working knowledge of machining practices, metallic properties, geometry, trigonometry and algebra.
• Ability to safely and accurately operate machining equipment and precision measuring instruments.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, sound judgment and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with Engineering, Maintenance and Production team members.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills and basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or related software.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Work in an active manufacturing and tool room environment around machinery, molds, dies and material-handling equipment.
• Stand, walk, bend, squat and stoop for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Lift and move up to 50 pounds as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Work overtime when required to support business and production needs.
