Epic Interface Engineer II

This position supports healthcare data integration initiatives through the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of interfaces between Epic and other healthcare applications. The role collaborates closely with clinical, operational, technical, and vendor partners to ensure reliable data exchange and workflow optimization. Job Posting Title: Epic Interface Engineer II Hiring Department: Dell Medical School Location: AUSTIN, TX Weekly Scheduled Hours: 40 FLSA Status: Exempt from FLSA Earliest Start Date: Immediately Position Duration: Expected to Continue Purpose The Epic Interface Engineer II is responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and support of interfaces between Epic Systems and other healthcare applications utilizing Epic Bridges and HL7 technologies. This role supports data integration, workflow optimization, system interoperability, and operational continuity across the healthcare environment. Interface Development and Maintenance Design and develop HL7 real-time interfaces between Epic and other healthcare systems Build, configure, test, and maintain Epic Bridges interfaces Test and validate interface functionality to ensure reliable data exchange Troubleshoot and resolve interface-related issues Monitor interface performance and recommend improvements Business Requirements Analysis Gather and document business requirements Translate business requirements into technical specifications Collaborate with stakeholders to refine requirements and identify integration needs Support solution design activities that align technical capabilities with operational requirements System Upgrades and Validation Assist with software upgrades, patches, and system enhancements Conduct end-to-end testing of interfaces and integration points Develop and execute test plans Validate interface functionality following upgrades and system changes User Support and Training Provide technical support to end users and operational teams Conduct training sessions related to interface functionality and usage Develop user manuals, technical documentation, and support materials Assist stakeholders with issue resolution and system adoption efforts Project Management Manage interface-related projects and assigned deliverables Coordinate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and stakeholders Track project progress and communicate status updates Support project planning, implementation, and execution activities Marginal or Periodic Functions Assist with software upgrades and patches Test new functionality and features Liaise with vendors regarding interface-related issues Coordinate vendor support and maintenance activities Analyze data flow and integration points Recommend improvements to integration and data processes Perform related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Technical Learning Quickly learns new technical skills, systems, and technologies Adapts to software updates and changing technical environments Troubleshoots complex technical issues effectively Implements new technologies and processes efficiently Problem Solving Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner Diagnoses interface issues accurately Develops effective technical solutions Collaborates with teams to resolve integration challenges Customer Focus Understands and meets the needs of customers and stakeholders Provides excellent user support and service Tailors solutions to user and operational requirements Maintains positive relationships with stakeholders Project Management (Abilities) Manages projects and assigned deliverables effectively Plans and organizes project tasks Monitors project timelines and milestones Communicates project status clearly and effectively Works effectively across technical, clinical, and operational teams Engages with cross-functional stakeholders Shares knowledge and resources Supports team members and organizational goals Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field Four years of experience developing interfaces Two years of experience developing interfaces within an Epic environment Two years of experience supporting Epic Bridges Experience with HL7 interface development and healthcare system integrations Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into technical solutions Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills Ability to collaborate effectively with technical, operational, and clinical stakeholders Preferred Qualifications Six years of experience in interface development and healthcare IT ITIL Foundation certification Project Management Professional (PMP) certification Experience supporting healthcare interoperability initiatives Experience working with healthcare integration and data exchange standards Required Certifications Epic Certification in Interface Development Preferred Certifications Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Salary Range $90,000+ depending on qualifications Working Conditions Standard office environment and equipment Repetitive use of a keyboard and computer Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use May require participation in testing, upgrades, and project implementation activities outside of standard business hours as needed Equal Opportunity Employer The University of Texas at Austin, as an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer, complies with all applicable federal and state laws regarding nondiscrimination and affirmative action.
