PATIENT SERVICE REP

The primary purpose of the position is to greet and welcome patients to the Practice. To verify the following information for patients. Patient demographic and insurance information, schedule patient visits, collecting copays, print patient forms, indexing forms, faxing, answering telephone calls, taking accurate patient messages, checking in and checking out patients on the Provider’s schedule. (Provider is Physician, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician’s Assistant) Qualifications: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent Must have general computer knowledge Must have basic tying skills Must have effective communication skills Must have the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of patients in a mature, courteous, and professional manner Must be able to perform multiple tasks at the same time such as answering calls, taking messages, scheduling patients both in person and on the telephone Must be able to function independently and accurately with frequent interruptions Skills: Below are examples of skills Comfortable speaking to patients and patients’ family members Detail oriented Adaptability to change work environment or needs of the department Ability to multitask Ability to prioritize tasks Ensure accurate and complete documentation in accordance with policies and procedures. Greet patients and patients’ family members in a pleasant professional manner. Verify demographics, referring provider, insurance information in person and over the telephone. Correctly identify health insurances and load them into the patient’s chart accurately. Collects co-pays and bill payments. Reconciles co-pays and bill payments nightly. Post copays and bill payments to the patient’s account. Must verify cash on hand in the drawer both at opening and closing. Must notify appropriate colleague when front office supplies are low. Indexing of reports, forms, ect into the patient’s chart. Faxing forms. Answering Telephone Calls. Ensure that the waiting room is tidy and clean. Any other duties as assigned by the Practice Manager . Working Conditions: Typical shifts are 8 to 10 hours per day. Shifts may be variable due to the volume of department. Rotation as needed. Lunch periods and breaks are coordinated with other staff members to maintain adequate floor coverage Cross training in all areas in the department is required. Staff may be assigned to different locations within the foundation. May require paid overtime before or after normal working hours. Subject to frequent interruptions during performance of duties. Expected to adhere to office policies and procedures. May be exposed to blood and bodily fluid. Category III- Includes tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and Category I tasks are not a condition of employment. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood; body fluids or tissues (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone anywhere might encounter potential exposure to body fluids.)
