**Reports To: **Shop Supervisor / Lead Mechanic
Position Summary
The Fleet Maintenance Associate assists with inspections, preventive maintenance, and basic repairs on diesel trucks and heavy equipment. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals looking to start or grow a career in fleet maintenance, working under the direction of experienced technicians and shop leadership.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with the inspection of brake systems, engines, emissions, steering, and wheel assemblies to ensure safe operation.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance (PM) including oil, tire, and brake services.
- Participate in training and development programs to build mechanical skills.
- Support DOT, PM, and brake/safety inspections under supervision.
- Complete assigned work orders and maintain accurate repair documentation.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Demonstrate basic understanding of hydraulic systems.
Education, Training & Experience:
- 2 – 3 years of related mechanical or technician experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and federal safety regulations.
- Ability to use diagnostic tools and basic computer systems.
- CDL Class A or B preferred, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- ASE certifications a plus; ongoing certification encouraged.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, push/pull up to 100 lbs.
- Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in various shop conditions.
- Capable of operating trucks or shop equipment as needed.
