Richmond University Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Family Peer Advocate (FPA) to join our Perinatal & Early Childhood Mental Health program (P+ECMH) . The Family Peer Advocate will draw on their lived experience as a parent or primary caregiver of a child with serious emotional and/or behavioral challenges to provide support, advocacy, and education to families. This role is essential to promoting family empowerment, engagement, and resiliency. Responsibilities:
- Provide advocacy, support, and education to families participating in the P+ECMH program.
- Use lived experience to empower parents/caregivers and model resiliency and hope.
- Assist families in navigating the mental health system and other child- and family-serving systems.
- Facilitate parent support groups, family education sessions, and community engagement activities.
- Promote quality services that enhance family voice and participation in care planning.
- Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with program and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with program staff and treatment team members to ensure coordinated care.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Family Peer Advocate (FPA) credential required.
- Must be the parent or primary caregiver of a child with serious emotional/behavioral challenges.
- Experience navigating mental health and related child-serving systems required.
- Previous experience in parent or group facilitation, advocacy, or community organization preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to work with diverse families.
- Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.
- Basic computer skills helpful.
