Summary of Job Duties:The Patient Care Technician (PCT) is a trained member of the unit based team who supports the on-going delivery of care as identified by the multidisciplinary Patient Management Team. The PCT works under the direct supervision of the R.N. and performs tasks and duties which do not require a license, professional judgment or intervention. The PCT must pass the required competencies. The PCT works within the Department of Nursing standards. The PCT adheres to UAMS clinical programs, policies, procedures and standards and guest care guidelines.Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED

• Successful completion of patient care technician course within three(3) months of hire

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Patient Care: The PCT must demonstrate proficiency in providing basic patient care

• Patient Safety: The PCT must adhere to established patient safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring the safety of both patients and staff members

• Communication: Effective communication skills are essential as the PCT interacts with patients, their families, and other healthcare team members.

• Documentation: Accurate and timely documentation of all patient-related activities is required, including vital signs, intake/output, and medication administration

• Organization: The PCT must possess strong organizational skills, including maintaining clean and organized work environments and accurately tracking patient supplies.

• Teamwork: Collaboration with the healthcare team is essential, as the PCT supports and assists with patient care needs.

• Physical stamina and the ability to work under pressure are essential qualities; Must be able to lift 50lbs. to waist height

Preferred Qualifications:

• Patient care experience in an acute care setting

• Experience with casting/splinting

• Experience with blood draws

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

• Prepares treatment rooms for examination.

• Assists with medical procedures and examinations.

• Conducts patient interviews, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and phlebotomy.

• Performs EKG's, basic dressing changes.

• Performs administrative tasks by registering and scheduling patients for appointments, procedures, etc. using the various registration and scheduling systems.

• May perform other duties as assigned.
