Salary: $54,000 - $65,000 Sign-On Bonus: $5,000 Location: Union, NJ Work Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm or Tuesday-Saturday 8:00 am-4:30 pm Full Time: 40 hours per week Position Overview As part of a multi-disciplinary core services team, the Co‑Occurring Specialist provides highly individualized services for enrollees with co‑occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders. The role assesses history and current needs, develops integrated treatment goals, and provides clinical leadership for PACT staff in the area of co‑occurring treatment. Essential Job Functions Monitor and assess mental health status of clients and related variables, including significant others, home and community environments. Lead the development of substance abuse assessment, comprehensive assessment, and individualized recovery plans, ensuring timely and quality documentation to meet DMHAS/Medicaid standards. Participate in clinical and non‑clinical team meetings, including individual and team supervision, and actively seek monthly supervision from a supervisor. Responsibilities Teach skills to support each person’s individualized recovery journey and community integration. Provide group and individual treatment modalities based on individual needs. Implement stage‑wise treatment focusing on substance use effects and patterns, integrating evidence‑based models such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and other CBT skills. Assist clients in recognizing interactive effects of substance abuse, psychiatric symptoms, and medications. Develop motivation for decreasing substance use, increasing coping skills, and minimizing use. Plan relapse prevention and assist with attending recovery or self‑help meetings. Educate clients on the impact of alcohol, tobacco, prescription medications, and other substances on functional areas of life. Provide referrals and linkages to addiction services beyond the scope of PACT. Address eating disorders, gambling, overspending, and other addictions as needed. Develop and implement WRAP and Psychiatric Advance Directives, incorporating Motivational Interviewing and CBT. Apply trauma‑informed care, permanent supportive housing, and career development strategies for individuals with co‑occurring disorders. Offer technical assistance and education to team members on co‑occurring disorders, developing related materials and strategies. Assess service recipients’ concerns, mental illness symptoms, and medication responses; monitor for side‑effects during observed self‑administration and face‑to‑face contacts. Educate clients and significant others on medications with consent. Coordinate services with community mental health and non‑mental health providers, and other medical professionals. Provide 24‑hour on‑call coverage on a rotating schedule, responding immediately by phone or in person as needed. Respond rapidly to crises, including accompanying clients to emergency services and remaining present during assessments. Support clients’ families and social networks in managing symptoms and reducing family/social stress, providing education for positive support. Requirements Education and Certifications Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health field. Registered as a CADC/LCADC in accordance with the Alcohol and Drug Licensing and Certification Act (N.J.S.A. 45:2D-1 et seq.). Experience A minimum of two years’ experience providing dual‑disorder/co‑occurring services to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness and substance abuse. Driver’s License/Vehicle Valid driver’s license required. No more than one moving violation within the past 12 months. Valid vehicle required.
