Assistant Construction Manager
$65k - $80kTrumark Companies
Who We Are Our mission is to enhance the lives of people by creating inspiring living environments. For over 35 years, Trumark has been a leading real estate development company with divisions in Colorado, Washington, Northern, Central, and Southern California. We strive to set ourselves apart from other builders by looking ahead. We ensure our products are the best for our homebuyers, that they fit into life today and in the future, and that the surroundings are inviting and purposeful.
Overview
We're looking for an Assistant Construction Manager to help build quality homes on schedule, from the first foundation pour through the day a family gets their keys. You'll work side by side with our Construction Managers in the field, keeping trades moving, catching issues early, and making sure every home meets our standards for quality, safety, and code. This is a true development role. You'll start by learning our schedules, processes, and trade partners, then take on more responsibility until you're managing homes independently. Our goal is to prepare you to step into a Construction Manager role.
What You'll Do
- Keep homes on schedule by monitoring daily activity, confirming trades are onsite and completing work, flagging potential delays early, and helping hit community cycle-time goals.
- Manage trade partners by building strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers, setting clear daily expectations, verify scopes are complete, and follow up until corrections are done.
- Inspect homes at key stages (foundation, framing, mechanical rough, drywall, trim, paint, flooring, and more), build punch lists, and verify repairs before a home moves forward.
- Promote and enforce safety standards every day, address unsafe conditions immediately, and keep jobsites clean, organized, and accessible.
- Interpret plans, elevations, scopes, and buyer selections, and catch conflicts before incorrect work moves ahead.
- Get homes ready for municipal inspections, attend when needed, document results, and coordinate corrections so homes pass the first time.
- Support QA inspections, homeowner orientations, final walks, and closings, and make sure every repair is verified, not just reported.
- Keep accurate status on your homes, document field conditions and issues, and share updates with construction leadership, sales, purchasing, and warranty teams.
- Take ownership, prioritize by schedule, safety, and quality impact, seek feedback, and build toward managing multiple homes on your own.
Education & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 0–2 years of experience in residential or commercial construction, a skilled trade, project coordination, field supervision, or a related area
- A basic understanding of residential construction, or a strong ability to learn it quickly
- Ability to read construction plans, or willingness to learn
- Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines
- Clear verbal and written communication, and the ability to work well with subcontractors and internal teams
- A problem-solving mindset — you don't just spot issues, you drive them to resolution
- Comfort with computers, mobile devices, and documenting jobsite conditions
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel between jobsites
Nice to Have
- 1–3 years of residential construction experience, ideally in production homebuilding
- Experience as an assistant superintendent, field coordinator, construction intern, warranty representative, project coordinator, or skilled-trade supervisor
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, Business, Architecture, or a related field
- Familiarity with production-home construction schedules and scheduling software
- Knowledge of residential building codes, inspection processes, or quality-control practices
- Experience coordinating subcontractors or vendors
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
Physical & Work Environment
This role is based primarily on active construction sites. With or without reasonable accommodation, you'll need to be able to:
- Walk homes and jobsites multiple times a day, including uneven surfaces
- Climb stairs and ladders
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Safely inspect work in confined, elevated, or partially completed areas
- Travel between homes and communities as needed
