Respiratory Therapist II
Novant Health
Novant Health is seeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist II to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within our Healthcare & Medical industry-leading system. In this role, you will provide advanced respiratory care to patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions, supporting our mission to improve health through excellent, compassionate care. Working in a fast-paced clinical environment, you will perform assessments, develop and implement respiratory care plans, and evaluate patient responses to therapy in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and the broader interdisciplinary team.
As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will conduct a full range of respiratory procedures, including oxygen therapy, aerosol and nebulizer therapies, chest physiotherapy, lung expansion techniques, non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation management, and airway clearance strategies. You will perform diagnostic testing such as arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, pulse oximetry, and basic pulmonary function screening as permitted by department protocols. You will interpret cardiopulmonary data, identify changes in patient status, and promptly communicate and escalate concerns to providers to ensure safe, high-quality care.
You will be expected to use advanced clinical judgment and evidence-based practice to adjust ventilator settings, titrate oxygen and respiratory medications within established guidelines, and support patients during procedures such as intubation, extubation, bronchoscopy, and rapid response or code events. You will help develop and update individualized care plans, document all care accurately in the electronic health record, and ensure that all therapies follow regulatory and hospital policies.
Education and patient-family engagement are key aspects of this role. The Respiratory Therapist II will provide bedside education on equipment use, medications, breathing techniques, and disease self-management for conditions such as COPD, asthma, pneumonia, and heart failure. You will collaborate closely with nursing, case management, and other disciplines to support safe discharges and effective transitions of care.
Within Novant Health’s culture, you will model and promote diversity, safety, and personalized care. You will participate in quality improvement initiatives, contribute to the development and review of respiratory care protocols, and support orientation or mentoring of newer respiratory therapists and students as appropriate. You will be expected to maintain high standards of infection prevention, equipment cleaning and calibration, and adherence to all safety and regulatory requirements.
This position is ideal for a respiratory professional who is clinically strong, comfortable with technology and advanced respiratory modalities, and motivated by innovation, collaboration, and continual professional growth. At Novant Health, you will have the opportunity to work with advanced monitoring systems and ventilator technologies, engage in ongoing education and skills development, and make a tangible impact on patient outcomes across diverse patient populations.
Novant Health offers a supportive work environment that values teamwork, respect, and open communication. You will be part of a system that invests in its team members, encourages professional certification and specialty training, and provides opportunities for advancement within respiratory care and related clinical leadership roles. By joining our team, you will help us deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centered care every day while contributing to our mission of improving the health of the communities we serve.
