Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, Inpatient Orthopedics

Job Summary Role is for inpatient orthopedics. Assistant Physician (APP) will work 12‑hour shifts and cover during the week 6:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. and weekends 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. APP will support and work closely with orthopedic attendings, fellows, residents, and subspecialty services. Orthopedic APPs work 365 days a year. No overnights, but scheduling is subject to change based on service needs. Location Location C Department APP Surgical Subspecialty Inpatient Shift and Schedule Rotating shift. Full‑time. 36 weekly hours. FTE 0.9. Regular employee status. Experience Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant – new graduate or experienced. Qualifications Certification – FNP, Acute Care, Primary Care, Physician Assistant. Surgical experience preferred. Master’s degree in a related field; may require clinical license, certification, or training, or Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. Licensure and certification in accordance with CCHMC Delineation of Privileges. Multi‑state licensure (in addition to Ohio) may be required based on subspecialty. Schedule Details

Shift length – 12 hours. Rotating – 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.; 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.; 9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. Holidays – Yes. Weekends – Yes. Call – No. Job Responsibilities Patient Care – Perform history and/or physical exams on patients presenting for care in the area of expertise. Assess and diagnose illnesses, including chronic and acute conditions. Formulate, document and monitor a treatment plan. Order and monitor therapeutic interventions including, but not limited to, diet, laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests as deemed necessary. Provide clinical consultation, order interdisciplinary consults. Practice in accordance with Federal and State Law & Rules and CCHMC policy. Attain and maintain competency in subspecialty practice, skills and procedures in accordance with Joint Commission standards for focused (FPPE) and ongoing (OPPE) professional practice evaluation. Outcomes Identification and Planning – Develop measurable outcomes that provide direction for continuity of care and consistency among providers. Prioritize, evaluate and modify individualized comprehensive plans of care. Address each diagnosis or issue appropriately. Involve the patient, family and caregiver in realistic outcomes and plans of care. Consider risks, benefits, costs, clinical effectiveness, evidence and expertise to formulate interventions and treatments. Professional Practice – Maintain professional behaviors aligned with core values and care standards, engage in quality improvement activities, lifelong learning, and professional development. Serve as preceptor, role‑model or mentor; contribute to peer development. Integrate ethical considerations and research findings into practice. Advocate for the pediatric patient, family, and caregiver. Serve as a leader and influence healthcare policy. Care Management – Maintain competency in skills and procedures; promote self‑management and family‑centered care. Employ complex strategies to achieve optimal quality and cost‑effective care. Document and communicate with healthcare team members to deliver integrated pediatric care. Delegate assessment and interventions within scope. Provide consultative influence on the plan of care, recommendations and referrals. Evaluation – Use systematic, ongoing evaluation of assessment data and outcomes to revise diagnoses, outcomes and plans of care. Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. Include patient, family, caregiver and providers. Base evaluation on advanced knowledge and practice. Use results to recommend process or structural changes, including policy and procedure updates. Scope for subspecialty role will not exceed the scope of the supervising medical doctor.
