Location & Work Model Location: Alexandria, VA Work Model: On‑Site with Travel (local travel required) Schedule: Monday–Friday 8:30 AM – 5 PM EST Status: Full‑Time What You’ll Do As a Lead Health Information Specialist (LHIS), you will play a critical role in supporting daily operations and ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of medical information. This role combines hands‑on Release of Information (ROI) work with leadership support, training, and team coordination. Providing call support and assisting with ROI‑related inquiries Processing medical record requests accurately and confidentially in compliance with HIPAA Assisting the Supervisor with inventory management, including Healthsource queue oversight and prioritization of urgent requests Serving as a subject‑matter resource for team members on ROI workflows, EMR navigation, SOPs, and best practices Supporting client and internal escalations with timely follow‑up and clear communication Assisting with training and onboarding of new hires, including mentoring and coaching Facilitating team training sessions and ongoing education to reinforce compliance and quality standards Performing data entry, faxing, scanning, and other administrative duties as needed Maintaining professionalism and effective communication with patients, providers, and clinical staff Supporting overall team productivity and quality goals Training & Onboarding VROI training supported On‑the‑job, onsite training provided within the first 30 days Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Ability to work on‑site daily Willingness and ability to travel locally on a weekly basis as needed Prior experience in healthcare, medical records, HIM, or Release of Information (ROI) required Supervisory or lead experience strongly preferred Proficiency with computers, email systems, and standard office equipment Strong understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism What We’re Looking For We’re seeking someone who is: Friendly, professional, and dependable Punctual and consistent – attendance is essential Adaptable and comfortable in a fast‑paced, evolving environment A strong verbal and written communicator Confident navigating multiple systems and workflows Experienced in leading, mentoring, or supporting a small team (preferred) Knowledgeable in ROI processes and EMR systems (required) Motivated to grow within a healthcare or medical records environment Additional Information To ensure the safety of patients and staff, many of our clients require post‑offer health screenings and proof and/or completion of various vaccinations such as the flu shot, Tdap, COVID‑19, etc. Any requests to be exempted from these requirements will be reviewed by Datavant Human Resources and determined on a case‑by‑case basis.
