Heavy Highway/Civil Senior Estimator

Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced Heavy Highway/Civil Senior Estimator to join our Southwest Region estimating team. As a Senior Estimator, candidates will have the knowledge and experience to prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for all scopes of work on a typical highway project (structures including retaining walls and bridges, concrete paving, storm sewer, earthwork, etc.), including the interpretation and takeoff of project plans and specifications to complete a full estimate of the work. The Senior Estimator will have the ability to be responsible for all scopes of work for both bid-build and design-build projects for the region estimating team. The Senior Estimator will have the experience to both assist and function in many of the roles of the Chief Estimator.

Essential Job Functions

• Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
• Prepare estimates by calculating the complete takeoff of scope of work.
• Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
• Utilize HCSS Heavy Bid estimating software to develop a comprehensive project estimate and ability to participate in the management of the estimate.
• Communicate with vendors in support of quotations.
• Review plans and specifications and recommend best solutions based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
• Identify, assess, and find ways to mitigate project risks.
• Provide leadership, training, and mentoring to junior estimating staff.

Qualifications

• 10 years of estimating experience and/or related project management training with large highway projects is preferred.
• Experience with all scopes of a typical highway construction project and the ability to estimate or review all scopes as needed.
• A working knowledge of TxDOT standards and specifications is preferred.
• Proficient experience with Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) is required.
• Proficient experience with Bluebeam is required.
• HCSS Heavy Bid experience and/or related software for pricing work is required.
• The capability to build and manage a P6 CPM schedule on projects is preferred.
• Experience with earthwork modeling.
• Strong computer, communication, and time management skills.
