Hiring Range is $52,364 to $60,555 annually based on qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing various skilled maintenance, repair, and renovation tasks to keep assigned buildings, facilities, swimming pools, and grounds. Facility maintenance trades include but are not limited to electrical, HVAC systems, plumbing and/or pool maintenance. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.
Essential Duties:
Performs skilled maintenance, repair and renovation of District buildings, facilities and equipment; performs skilled duties in a variety of building maintenance and construction trades including HVAC, plumbing, electrical and other trades.
Performs general maintenance and repair of swimming pool mechanicals at indoor and outdoor pools (pumps/boilers) including start-up operation, inspection and winterization.
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical lighting, motors and control systems
Diagnoses and repairs facility heating and cooling systems and various mechanical components.
Performs preventive maintenance and services on HVAC units, pump motors, bearings, lighting, plumbing and various types of mechanical equipment.
Maintains, operates, and cares for assigned hand tools and equipment including pickup truck, trailer, compressor, small engines, etc. Maintains and routinely inventories parts and materials used while performing maintenance duties.
Maintains material cost tracking data for maintenance and repairs of equipment. Works within budget guidelines to maintain shop inventory and tools. Responsible for providing accurate information for preparing purchase orders.
Keeps accurate records of daily activities including personal timecard, daily activity reports, and work orders.
Develops and maintains professional relationships with District employees, vendors, and contractors.
Exercises good judgment and proper safety precautions and practices at all times.
Responds tactfully, respectfully and in a timely manner to inquiries and problems in person, through email, phone, and mail by providing helpful information and explanations in-line with District policies and procedures. Thoughtfully handles confrontational or stressful interactions.
Attends and participates in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
Attends work on a regular, reliable, and punctual basis.
May be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays, as well as work shifts deviating from this position’s normal workdays and/or with other work groups.
May be responsible for scheduled on-call emergency response. Responds to emergency callbacks on a 24-hour basis.
Repairs and maintains plumbing fixtures including water heaters, valves, pipes, drains, sinks, toilets, faucets, and related equipment.
Responsible for the electrical distribution systems; troubleshoots and performs electrical repairs and replacements including wiring, fixtures, switches, controls, motors and pumps.
May lead and provide guidance to other workers.
Operates a variety of equipment including hand and power tools utilized in the various trades; operate various equipment and machinery.
Inspects facilities for security, safety or needed repairs and takes appropriate action.

Education and/or Experience:
Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
Two (2) years of trade school in Mechanical Maintenance or a related field.
One (1) year of experience in a mechanical skilled trade field.
Any combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
Boiler, chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) / Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Section 608, and/or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred.
Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of the techniques, tools and equipment involved in the repair and routine maintenance of the mechanical systems of commercial recreational buildings, commercial indoor/outdoor pools and outdoor shelter/restrooms.
General knowledge of workplace safety procedures and the ability to exercise good judgement and practice proper safety precautions at all times.
Ability to learn and apply electrical, HVAC, plumbing and/or pool maintenance practices.
Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills to analyze complex problems and implement appropriate corrective actions.
Ability to interpret plumbing, electrical and HVAC blueprints for use in repair of facilities, troubleshoot and assess emergency building and equipment problems and respond in a timely manner.
Ability to effectively manage and prioritize situations and goals to maximize available resources.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to read directions, chemical labels, and work documents.
Must have working knowledge of and demonstrated skills in handling basic hand and power tools, motorized vehicles, equipment, and the ability to exercise accepted safety precautions while operating these.
General knowledge in the use and general maintenance of hand, power and motorized tools associated with mechanical maintenance.
Ability and willingness to comply with District and Departmental vision, mission, rules, regulations, safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and special work requests.
Ability to interact tactfully, clearly, concisely, and appropriately with the public, District administration, co-workers, and other agencies or contractors.
Must be highly motivated and take direction well.
Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide outstanding customer service, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and interact with others in a professional manner.
Communication skills to express facts, data, and ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
Material and Equipment Used:
Regularly uses equipment inherent to skilled trades such as Volt/Electrical meters, 50 ft. tow-behind man lift, 35 ft. man lift, cordless drill, saws, grinders, 75 ft. sewer auger drain machine, wire welder, Acetylene/map gas torch, refrigerant gauges, manometer, and underground location detector.
Uses standard office equipment including a personal computer, phone, printer, and copier.
This position may be required to drive a personal and/or District motor vehicle to various District and off-site facilities for business purposes.
Working Environment:
Regularly requires strenuous work in the field subject to a variety of weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscapes.
This position has regular exposure to adverse conditions such as dust, molds, grasses, fumes, odors, noise, wildlife and insects such as bees and wasps, pesticides and cleaning chemicals, solvents, oils, greases, paint, wax stripper, extreme temperatures, ultra-violet radiation, precipitation, and may include unlit or low light situations.
This position also performs work in an office environment subject to interruptions and background noises.
Physical Requirements:
Extended periods spent performing strenuous manual labor and standing, walking, sitting.
Frequent physical work lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted. May occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.
Required to use hands and fingers to manually manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
Frequently required to climb, squat, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl. May occasionally climb stairs and ladders and work in uncomfortable positions for short periods of time.
Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate tools, machinery, personal computer and equipment.
Foot/eye coordination required for operating motorized equipment.
Daily duties require the ability to twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movements.
Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information. Vision acuity to see close-up and at a distance with the ability to adjust focus allowing a broad field of vision. Visual abilities requirements also include color vision, night vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Speech communication and hearing to maintain clear and effective communication, and to receive and interpret warning signals. Must understand and be understood.
