Position Description ONLINE EXAM WINDOW TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 11-12, 2026 INTERVIEWS TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 27-28, 2026 The Fresno County Department of General Services invites applications for the position of Security Officer . Incumbents are responsible for patrolling buildings and grounds to ensure security and fire protection, securing facilities to prevent unauthorized entry, enforcing security rules and regulations, and reporting illegal security breaches and behavior to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. Ideal candidates should possess keen observation skills, the ability to adapt to a variety of situations requiring sound judgement and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Applicants must be willing to work overtime, if necessary, and shifts as assigned, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Fresno County is working together for a quality of life for all. Our mission is to provide excellent public services to our diverse community. Minimum Qualifications Education: Possession of a United States' high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. License: Possession of a valid Class "C" driver’s license, or equivalent. Certification: Ability to obtain a Security Guard card issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS), within one (1) year from the date of hire or be rejected during the probationary period. Valid Security Guard Card must be maintained for the duration of employment. Note: Incumbents must obtain and maintain Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ) clearance as a condition of employment. Incumbents may be required to obtain and maintain California Department of Social Services Guardian clearance as a condition of employment. Selection Process Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur. Tentative Exam Dates: August 11-12, 2026 Tentative Interview Dates: August 27-28, 2026 The eligible list for this recruitment may be extended up to 12 months, and may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules.
