Shipping and Receiving Clerk
This role focuses on safely and accurately loading, unloading, and handling windows, doors, and related building products within a fast-paced manufacturing and warehouse environment. The shipping and receiving clerk supports production and distribution operations by preparing shipments, verifying documentation, maintaining inventory organization, and contributing to on-time delivery and overall product quality.
Responsibilities:
- Load and unload windows, doors, and building products onto trailers and delivery vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
- Verify orders and shipping documentation to ensure accuracy before shipment.
- Secure all loads properly to prevent damage during transportation.
- Inspect products for quality and promptly report any damaged materials.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment safely and efficiently.
- Stage materials for shipment and organize inventory within designated warehouse locations.
- Assist with receiving inbound materials and supporting inventory replenishment activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.
- Follow all company safety procedures and quality standards consistently.
- Work closely with production, shipping, and warehouse teams to meet daily shipping schedules.
- Read and follow work orders and production instructions accurately.
- Perform general labor tasks, including general production, assembly, inspection, paint preparation, coating, and racking as needed.
- Handle repetitive tasks while standing, bending, twisting, reaching, and walking for extended periods.
- Support powder coat and paint line operations as required, contributing to quality and throughput.
- Adapt to changing priorities, including assisting with busy projects or deadlines that may require overtime.
Essential Skills:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in warehouse, shipping, receiving, material handling, or loading roles preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret shipping paperwork, work orders, and production instructions.
- Strong attention to detail with a consistent commitment to safety and quality.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Physical ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable standing, bending, twisting, reaching, and walking for extended periods.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing and warehouse environment.
- Comfortable working around industrial equipment and moving machinery.
- Physically capable of performing repetitive tasks while maintaining accuracy and focus.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Forklift experience preferred; certification is a plus.
- Experience with forklift operation and safe material handling.
- Experience in inventory management and warehouse organization.
- Experience in shipping and receiving processes.
- Quality inspection experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or paint line environment is a plus but not required.
- Demonstrated team collaboration skills and ability to support a small powder coat team.
- General labor, general production, assembly, inspection, paint preparation, coating, and racking experience are beneficial.

Work Environment:
The role is based in a West Des Moines manufacturing and warehouse facility that is not temperature controlled, with exposure to varying temperatures depending on the season and shipping areas. The standard shift runs from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime and occasional weekend work possible during busy projects or deadlines, though current overtime levels are low. You will work in a fast-paced environment around industrial equipment and moving machinery, collaborating closely with a powder coat team of approximately 57 members. The dress code includes steel-toed boots, jeans, a t-shirt, safety glasses, and appropriate hearing protection to ensure safety and comfort throughout the workday.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Des Moines, IA.
Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $17.50 - $18.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
