Bus Driver

Under general supervision, drives school bus to safely transport assigned public school students to and from school in a timely manner. Reports to the Transportation Supervisor.

Essential functions include driving school bus to safely transport students, conducting safety inspections, ensuring safety of children, making student seat assignments, maintaining student manifest, completing and submitting daily mileage and student attendance records, reporting late arrival of a bus, maintaining order and control for emergency situations, maintaining cleanliness of assigned bus, monitoring student behavior, completing and submitting disciplinary forms, interacting and communicating with supervisor and staff, complying with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, administrative rules, and directives.

Additional duties may include training other bus drivers, providing orientation sessions, preparing and submitting training verification reports, monitoring finances, and performing related duties as required.

Minimum education and training requires a high school diploma supplemented by a good driving record and required training, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess valid state class "B" CDL driver's license with appropriate endorsements; may require specialized training for transporting handicapped passengers.

Required physical requirements include the ability to operate a school bus, lift and/or carry weights of up to fifty pounds, compare and judge data, communicate effectively, comprehend and interpret information, apply common sense understanding, make routine independent judgments, and deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.
