RN Clinical Educator Surgery

Job Summary:

The Clinical Staff Educator-Surgery is responsible for providing education and training to clinical staff, focusing on healthcare education programs and simulation training. This role supports department managers and nurse coordinators in developing educational initiatives, promotes continuous quality improvement, and acts as a resource for clinical staff. The educator evaluates programs and participant learning, ensuring effective communication and teamwork while maintaining patient confidentiality. Responsibilities:

• Provide education and instruction to clinical staff on technical and theoretical healthcare concepts.
• Develop and support educational programs in collaboration with department managers and clinical nurse coordinators.
• Utilize simulation training tools including mannequins and software for staff education.
• Work closely with Quality Management to identify educational opportunities and support quality initiatives.
• Evaluate educational programs and participant learning outcomes, making adjustments as needed.
• Manage multiple tasks efficiently, prioritize duties, and communicate barriers to timely completion.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
• Promote teamwork, cooperation, empathy, and compassion in all communications.
• Participate in required education related to accreditation and quality programs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Oregon Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Healthcare Provider (HCP) CPR certification.
• Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing (or approved equivalent with commitment to obtain within 3 years).
• Minimum 5 years hospital nursing experience, including 3 years in Operating Room (OR).
• Proficiency in computer skills including word processing and internet use.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Master of Science in Nursing degree.
• Experience teaching healthcare staff and developing educational courses.
• Knowledge of teaching theories, learning models, and simulation-based education.
• Experience as a clinical staff educator.
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems.
• Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Excellent communication, telephone etiquette, and customer service skills.
• Typing speed of at least 45 WPM with accuracy.

• Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
• Work collaboratively with Quality Management and clinical teams to promote continuous improvement.

• Work schedule and shifts to be determined based on departmental needs and education program requirements.
• Flexibility to manage various tasks and priorities throughout the workday.
