Job no: 562359 Work type: Staff Location: San José Categories: Unit 9 - CSUEU - Technical Support Services, Probationary, Full Time, Information Systems & Technology The Shared Services - Student Wellness Center (SWC) department is seeking a Desktop Support Specialist to provide advanced technical support, consultation, and technology lifecycle management across clinical, administrative, and wellness program environments. Reporting to the Director of Care Experience and Operations, this position helps ensure reliable, secure, and efficient technology operations that support patient care, student engagement, and staff productivity. The Desktop Support Specialist manages technology assets from inventory and property checkout through refresh, replacement, secure disposal, and recycling. The position also troubleshoots complex issues, supports electronic health and telehealth platforms, coordinates small technology projects, and serves as a resource to staff using technology systems. Key Responsibilities Provide advanced technical support for hardware, software, network connectivity, desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, electronic health records, telehealth platforms, and other specialized systems Manage the full lifecycle of Student Wellness Center technology assets, including inventory, property checkout and return, audits, tagging, warranties, refresh planning, deployment, replacement, secure disposal, and recycling Install, configure, maintain, and update operating systems, applications, and specialized software in alignment with university IT standards, cybersecurity requirements, and data privacy regulations Coordinate small-scale technology projects and collaborate with campus IT, vendors, Student Wellness Center leadership, and staff to resolve escalated issues and improve service delivery Develop documentation, reports, dashboards, and staff training that support technology use, operational continuity, audit readiness, and long-term workflow improvement Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of hardware and software troubleshooting, system configuration, and end-user support practices Working knowledge of network connectivity, system administration, and IT security principles General awareness of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), and a willingness to develop skills in their appropriate, responsible, and ethical use in a higher education environment, consistent with institutional policies and practices Ability to manage and track technology assets, including inventory systems and lifecycle planning Knowledge of or ability to learn campus property policies, asset management procedures, and data security standards Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines Ability to develop documentation, reports, and tracking tools for operational and compliance purposes Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users Effective communication across a variety of venues and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships in a diverse, multicultural environment Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information, including health-related data Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make constructive recommendations Familiarity with best practices for collaborating with department managers, staff, and the general public Required Qualifications Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field Two (2) years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting technology in a healthcare, counseling, and/or student services environment Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, telehealth platforms, or clinical applications At least two (2) years of experience coordinating equipment refresh cycles and technology deployments Demonstrated experience working with and implementing property policies, security standards, and data privacy requirements Compensation Classification: Technology Support Specialist II Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,944/month - $8,430/month (Step 17 - Step 20) CSU Salary Range: $5,787/month - $8,430/month (Step 1 - Step 20) San José State University offers employees a comprehensive benefits package typically worth 30-35% of your base salary.
