Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview An externship experience at an National Veterinary Associates (NVA) hospital will give veterinary students the unique opportunity to understand day-to-day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Every NVA hospital is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical examinations Create treatment plans Conduct diagnostics Provide dentistry services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures Manage medical care of patients Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients Duration Externship experience ranges from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. Qualifications Veterinary student in the clinical portion of education Eligible for travel/living expense stipend Stipend Travel/living expense stipend amount for Great Rivers Animal Hospital is $1,500.
