This class is a State certified Firefighter/ Paramedic responsible for performing duties in an assigned division of the department. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Gwinnett County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace. This position requires a public safety background check to include motor vehicle histories, criminal histories, and fingerprinting. This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after-hours, weekends, and/or holidays. Applicants must pass a comprehensive background investigation including criminal, controlled substance, driving, employment history checks, an oral interview, medical exam including drug screen, psychological and physical agility testing. Typical duties of the Firemedic position include the following, position assignments may vary: Determines the type of medical emergency and field treatment to stabilize patients and performs emergency medical care to include advanced life support. Assists in the performance of fire suppression duties utilizing a variety of equipment to contain and extinguish fire or mitigate other emergencies such as hazardous materials incidents and technical rescues. Inspects and operates assigned equipment, apparatus, or ambulance to ensure proper working condition. Monitors inventory usage and documentation for compliance. Prepares reports related to incidents, equipment, and patients. Performs inspections and maintenance of fire station and equipment. Participates in prevention programs to provide public information on life/fire safety. Determines the best way to assist citizens with general questions. Participates in regularly scheduled training programs for the purpose of maintaining basic skills and knowledge and career development. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. Responsibilities Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.

  • 59,079 - $94,588 Starting Salary
  • 60,851 - $97,425 3% pay incentive for an Associates degree
  • 62,623 - $100,263 6% pay incentive for a Bachelor's degree

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D. Valid Driver's License from State of Residency Current Georgia Paramedic certification and/or current National Registry Paramedic certification. Additional Courses To Be Completed As Required Firefighter I Certification (Must be obtained within one year); NPQ Hazardous Materials Awareness Certification (Must be obtained within one year) Physical Requirements Positions in this class require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, manual dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises and travel.
