Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for a Nocturnist Hospital Medicine locum opportunity in Plainview, Texas, beginning November 2026. This assignment offers consistent overnight coverage with approximately 14 shifts per month, a relatively low overnight admission volume, physician backup, and no required procedures.

Assignment Details

• Start: November 2026
• Ongoing through the end of the year
• Approximately 14 shifts per month
• Nocturnist APP coverage
• Minimum 2 years of experience required

Schedule

• Night shifts
• 7:00 PM 7:00 AM
• 12-hour shifts
• One APP onsite overnight
• Day hospitalist physician provides overnight call support for the APP

Practice Setting

• Acute care hospital
• Hospital Medicine
• 45 medical/surgical beds
• Open ICU
• Epic EMR
• Hospital Medicine admits all patients, including surgical and orthopedic patients

Patient Volume

• Average overnight admissions: 1 3
• Average daytime census: 9 11
• Average daytime admissions: 3 9

Procedures

• No procedures required
• Procedures are described as rare
• Intubation, central line placement, and ventilator management experience is preferred but not required
• Emergency Medicine team can perform procedures when needed

Support Staff

• Physician available on night call for APP support
• Hospitalist coverage onsite during the day
• Specialty services include Anesthesiology, Cardiology, OB/GYN, Radiology, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Pediatrics, and additional ancillary services

Requirements

• Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Active Texas license or Texas license currently in process
• BLS
• ACLS
• No procedures required

Credentialing & Onboarding

• Anticipated credentialing: days
• Typical timeframe: approximately 3 4 months
• Temporary privileges may be available with a complete file and required approvals
• Epic training must be completed prior to orientation
• Epic training is virtual and required for all clinicians

Ideal Candidate

An experienced NP or PA with at least two years of Hospital Medicine experience who is comfortable working independently overnight with physician backup. This opportunity is particularly well suited for an APP looking for consistent 7p 7a nocturnist shifts, approximately 14 shifts per month, low overnight admission volume, and no required procedures.
