Ocean Import Coordinator

Ocean Import Coordinator | Jericho, New York | Salary up to $65,000

This role is responsible for ensuring timely cargo movement, accurate documentation, customs compliance coordination, and exceptional service to clients, overseas agents, and carriers. The candidate must have prior experience in ocean import operations within a freight forwarding or NVOCC environment and possess strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage FCL and LCL ocean import shipments from origin through final delivery
• Communicate with overseas agents, steamship lines, trucking companies, warehouses, and customers regarding shipment status and requirements
• Review and process import documentation including bills of lading, arrival notices, commercial invoices, packing lists, and delivery orders
• Track shipments and proactively resolve delays, customs holds, or transportation issues
• Arrange cargo delivery and inland transportation with trucking providers and warehouses
• Work closely with customs brokers to ensure timely customs clearance and compliance with U.S. import regulations
• Prepare and issue invoices, verify vendor charges, and ensure accurate billing
• Maintain shipment records and update internal operating systems with accurate information
• Provide high-level customer service by responding promptly to client inquiries and shipment updates
• Ensure compliance with company procedures, TSA/FMC regulations, and international shipping requirements

Qualifications

• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in ocean import freight forwarding required
• Knowledge of ocean import documentation and shipping processes
• Experience handling FCL/LCL shipments and coordinating final delivery
• Familiarity with U.S. Customs procedures and import compliance
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
