Substitute School Nurse (RN) – Floating School Nurse Are you a compassionate Registered Nurse who loves working with children? We are currently hiring Registered Nurses (RN) to serve as Substitute/Floating School Nurses throughout New Brunswick. This is a dynamic role for a nurse who is comfortable working at different schools and adapting to changing needs throughout the school day. As a Float School Nurse, you will provide substitute nursing coverage in school health offices across the New Brunswick school district. Your assigned location and responsibilities may change throughout the day based on the needs of the schools and students. What Does a Float Nurse Do? The Substitute/Floating School Nurse provides nursing coverage wherever it is needed throughout the school day. Typical responsibilities may include:

• Providing nursing care to students in the school health office
• Assessing students who are ill, injured, or experiencing health concerns
• Administering medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies
• Providing first aid and responding to student emergencies
• Monitoring students with chronic health conditions and individualized healthcare needs
• Managing and following student health plans
• Performing routine nursing assessments and interventions
• Communicating with parents/guardians, school staff, and healthcare providers as appropriate
• Maintaining accurate student health records and documentation
• Supporting students who require specialized nursing care
• Assisting with health screenings and other school health activities
• Providing coverage for school nurses who are absent or unavailable
• Supporting multiple school health offices when additional nursing coverage is needed
• Traveling between different school locations within New Brunswick during the school day
• Adjusting to changing staffing and student needs, which may require moving to another school with little notice
• Prioritizing and responding to the most immediate health and nursing needs at each assigned school

A Dynamic Role That Changes Throughout the Day This position is ideal for a nurse who enjoys variety and can adapt quickly. Your assignment may change during the day based on the district's needs. For example, you may begin the morning providing coverage at one school and later be asked to report to another school to provide additional nursing coverage. Float nurses should be prepared to:

• Start the day at one school and move to another school as needs arise
• Receive same-day changes to their assignments
• Adapt quickly to different school environments and student populations
• Maintain professionalism and continuity of care while transitioning between locations

✅ Qualifications

• Active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Pediatric experience required
• 1+ year of skilled nursing experience preferred
• School Nursing experience required
• Current CPR certification
• Reliable transportation
• Ability and willingness to travel between school locations within New Brunswick
• Ability to adapt to changing assignments and priorities throughout the school day
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Compassionate, dependable, and comfortable working independently
