VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT SCHOOL YEAR 2026-2027 Position Title: Early Childhood Special Education Teacher (Ages 3-Early Elementary) Primary Purpose: Provide young students with disabilities (ages 3 through early elementary) with engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop and adapt individualized curricula and instructional materials to meet each child’s unique needs. Foster a nurturing, structured environment that builds foundational academic, communication, behavioral, and life skills. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate with required Special Education endorsements Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of early childhood development and special education needs for young learners Understanding of the ARD Committee process and IEP development/implementation Ability to design play-based, developmentally appropriate instruction Skills in behavior management and early intervention strategies Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Experience: Student teaching, internship, or experience working with young children Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Strategies Collaborate with parents, staff, and specialists to develop and implement IEPs through the ARD process Implement play-based, hands-on instruction aligned with developmental milestones Adapt curriculum to support communication, motor, social, and pre-academic skill development Use a variety of instructional strategies, including sensory activities, structured routines, and assistive technology Support inclusion by collaborating with general education teachers when appropriate Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and instructional planning Student Growth and Development Assess student progress using formal and informal tools appropriate for early learners Support development of communication, social interaction, and self-help skills Provide or assist with personal care (toileting, feeding, hygiene) as outlined in IEPs Work with therapists and specialists to meet developmental goals Classroom Management and Organization Create a safe, nurturing, and structured classroom environment that supports early learning Establish consistent routines and positive behavior supports Manage student behavior, including crisis intervention when necessary, in accordance with IEPs Supervise and direct paraprofessionals or aides Ensure safety of students, including those with mobility or medical needs Communication and Collaboration Maintain open, supportive communication with families Partner with staff to ensure continuity of care and instruction Participate in staff development and ongoing training Maintain accurate records, documentation, and compliance with all special education requirements Supervisory Responsibilities: Direct and oversee instructional aides and classroom support staff Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (may include lifting students over 45 lbs) Assist students with mobility and personal care needs Maintain emotional control and patience in a dynamic classroom environment Exposure to biological hazards common in early childhood settings Why Join Our District? 4-Day School Week Small School Atmosphere Strong Community Support Competitive Salary and Benefits Retention Stipends Contact: Shelly Knight, Special Education Director Pewitt CISD US HWY 67 West Omaha, TX 75571 Email: View email address on click.appcast.io Phone: View phone number on click.appcast.io APPLICATION DEADLINE: Position remains open until the applicant is officially hired.
