Respiratory Therapist

Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and assisting with patient transport within the facility as medically prescribed. This role evaluates patient needs and recommends treatment plans, explaining the purpose and procedure of treatments and equipment to patients while providing necessary education prior to discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using a variety of ventilatory, oxygen, aerosol, and nebulizer devices.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance and suction patients using various methods.
• Conduct oximetry and capnography monitoring per policy.
• Review patient chest x-rays and perform pulmonary function studies.
• Assist with respiratory care procedures according to policy, including bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, and tracheostomy care.
• Perform arterial punctures and monitor, record, and report test results.
• Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Maintain and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment, performing self-tests as required.
• Accurately document treatments and patient responses on respiratory care records and patient charts.
• Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians about therapy efficiency and patient care.

Schedule

This position follows a Day 3x12.0 schedule.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current Respiratory Therapist license.
• Experience in performing respiratory care and related procedures.
• Certification in BLS and ACLS.

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.
