Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

This position involves providing care in a fast-paced telemetry unit, handling a variety of general medical-surgical patients, as well as post-operative general and orthopedic cases. The nurse will be expected to interpret EKG strips and demonstrate competence in administering specific medication drips.

Responsibilities

• Administer medications and monitor patient responses in a telemetry setting.
• Provide compassionate care to patients and support their families.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Perform patient assessments and document care accurately using Cerner EMR.
• Float to the telemetry unit when necessary and assist wherever needed.
• Participate in the orientation and training of new staff as required.
• Work effectively with charge nurses and clinical leadership for unit management.

Shift Information

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Shift Type: Night shifts
• Guaranteed hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Rotate with core staff for major holidays

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a telemetry or medical-surgical nursing role.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS.
• Completion of the dysrhythmia exam (Basic) within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance.
• Strong ability to read and interpret EKG strips.
• Demonstrate competence in IV medications, particularly Amiodarone and Diltiazem drips.

Unit Information

• 38 beds with 8 designated for telemetry.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5.
• Floor-specific orientation of 1 to 2 days with a preceptor.
• Nurse aides available as census and staffing dictate.

Additional Notes

• Self-scheduling is utilized but is subject to managerial approval to balance staffing.
• Access to schedules from home and ability to indicate availability for extra shifts is provided.
• Fast-paced environment with a two-hallway layout.
