Pharmacy Technician 3, Ambulatory Care

The Pharmacy Technician 3 works under the general supervision and control of a pharmacist while performing duties. The position is responsible for gathering information from medical records and other sources to coordinate patient care in the ambulatory care clinics, including but not limited to, primary care, anticoagulation, value-based care, remote patient monitoring. Day-to-day activities include referral management, reviewing medical records for patient information, telephone calls to patients, prior authorization and/or patient assistance program assistance, maintaining databases of activities to document workload and impact on patient outcomes, and other activities to support the ambulatory care pharmacist in patient care. #CA-DS Minimum Qualifications For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position. California Licensed Pharmacy Technician Minimum education satisfied through attainment of the required licensure/certification Experience in communicating with patients and hospital personnel, both orally and in writing Experience in ambulatory care, specialty pharmacy, managed care, or clinic-based pharmacy services Experience supporting prior authorization and medical access processes Experience reviewing electronic medical records and documenting activities in an EMR Experience applying established pharmacy protocols and identifying missing clinical documentation Working knowledge of using an electronic medical record (EMR) Skill in organizing and ability to keep accurate records and pay close attention to details Working knowledge of Office Suite Systems (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) Ability to perform pharmacy calculations accurately Ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision, yet recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of authority have been reached Skill in problem-solving to independently recognize and define a problem and identify the resources available to help solve the problem, create and implement viable solutions, and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for clinic's/department's customers Demonstrated ability to work independently within pharmacy workflows and coordinate activities with patients, providers, and pharmacists Ability to perform chart review in a time-effective manner Preferred Qualifications Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Recent Retail Pharmacy experience Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) Pharmacy Technician experience Knowledge of hospital, department and university policies and procedures Familiarity with hospital layout, names and location of patient care areas and clinics Key Responsibilities 75% - Works under the direct supervision and control of the pharmacist to support clinical pharmacists in ambulatory care and perform duties of pharmacy technician 15% - Follows protocol/policy to make recommendations 10% - Other duties as assigned Department Overview UC Davis Health is a nationally recognized leader in the provision of high-quality, patient-centered care, based in the Greater Sacramento area of Northern California. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs. The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
