Our client is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in either our Houston, TX or Chicago, IL office. The Senior Electrical Engineer responsible for leading the design, engineering, and construction oversight of mission-critical electrical infrastructure for hyperscale and enterprise data center facilities ranging from 10-500+ MW capacity. This position requires extensive experience in high-density power distribution, redundant UPS systems, emergency power generation, and Uptime Institute Tier III/IV design standards.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Lead electrical design for data center projects including medium voltage distribution (15kV-35kV), primary/secondary power systems, UPS configurations (2N, 2N+1, distributed redundant), emergency diesel generation, and critical power distribution to IT loads
• Design power distribution systems from utility interconnection through rack-level PDUs, including switchgear specifications, transformer sizing, bus duct routing, and branch circuit distribution
• Perform load analysis, short circuit studies, arc flash analysis, protective device coordination, and harmonic distortion assessments for critical facilities
• Develop single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, panel schedules, raceway routing, grounding systems, and lighting designs specific to data center environments
• Coordinate with utility providers on service entrance requirements, redundant feeds, capacity planning, and emergency power interconnections
• Ensure compliance with NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 75, NFPA 76, NFPA 110, IEEE standards, Uptime Institute requirements, and applicable state/local codes
• Manage electrical construction administration including submittal reviews, RFI responses, site observations, commissioning oversight, and integrated systems testing
• Collaborate with MEP disciplines on spatial coordination, cooling redundancy strategies, and infrastructure capacity planning
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical quality control on design deliverables.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS :

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited program
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• 7-10 years of electrical engineering experience with minimum 2-5 years focused on data center or mission-critical facilities
• Demonstrated experience with 480V/277V and medium voltage power systems, generator paralleling, and automatic transfer switch configurations
• Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, Revit MEP, SKM PowerTools or equivalent)
• Strong understanding of ASHRAE TC 9.9 guidelines, Uptime Institute Tier classifications, and data center industry best practices
• Experience managing projects exceeding $50M construction value
• Excellent communication skills for client interaction, contractor coordination, and design team leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
• RCDD, CEM, LEED AP, or Uptime Institute certifications
• Experience with hyperscale (100MW+) data center campuses
• Knowledge of sustainable design practices including renewable energy integration, energy storage systems, and power usage effectiveness (PUE) optimization
• Familiarity with colocation, enterprise, and cloud service provider operational requirements
• Government/DOD data center security clearance experience
