Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Attends and participates in internal and external educational meetings (departmental in-services, staff meetings, and manufacturer's training sessions) to maintain and enhance technical competence. Demonstrates and teaches the use of oxygen delivery equipment, restricted to that equipment not requiring a licensed respiratory therapist for teaching.
2. Assists the Respiratory Therapist in maintaining readiness of mechanical ventilators by preparing various circuits and conducting electronic and pneumatic tests between patients. Assembles various circuits used in non-invasive mechanical ventilation. Conducts preliminary troubleshooting activities when a mechanical ventilator malfunctions; notifies Clinical Engineering and arranges repair.
3. Conducts preventative maintenance activities according to the manufacturer's recommended guidelines. Troubleshoots and repairs malfunctioning oxygen and suction regulators and flowmeters.
4. Monitors inventory of consumable plastics (e.g., oxygen administration devices, various circuitry) and orders supplies. Delivers inventory to designated areas within the medical center. Assembles and delivers various circuits (e.g., non-invasive mechanical ventilation circuits) to critical care areas.
5. Performs oxygen rounds and enters daily charges using the Charge Entry function in CCC. Delivers full oxygen cylinders to designated supply areas in the general patient care units; retrieves empty cylinders and returns them to the bulk storage area. Provides scheduled and unscheduled education concerning changing regulators on oxygen cylinders.

Required Qualifications

1. High School diploma or GED required.
2. 0-1 years related work experience required.
3. Knowledge of medical terminology.
4. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

2. Oral Communications: Ability to understand spoken English in order to follow basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively in basic English with patients, families and medical center staff in response to routine questions.
3. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.
4. Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
5. Customer Service: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.

Age Based Competencies

Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal: Birth to 6 months, Youth: 6 months to 16 years, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 -. Physical Nature of the Job: Very Heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force continually. Employee is physically active in all elements of the job.

Pay Range

$23.00 - $29.00

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
