Specialty Mechanical Engineer Sr. (Hybrid/Remote)

We are currently seeking a Specialty Mechanical Equipment Engineer to support our Nuclear Projects – Oak Ridge Group. The Senior Specialty Mechanical Equipment Engineer must be knowledgeable in specialty machinery design. The ideal candidate must have 15+ years of experience and be competent using discipline-specific technical software such as SOLIDWORKS, Creo, ANSYS and other CAD/CAE software packages. The work will be performed in Oak Ridge, TN with potentially some travel.

Qualifications:

• 15 or more years of experience
• B.S. Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program
• Knowledge and experience with specialized mechanical equipment
• Experience with management of scope, schedule, and budget of individual projects
• Ability to follow established Amentum’s quality procedures and ensures that all work accomplished under their control is accomplished under established quality procedures
• Experience working within a quality system based on ISO 9000 or NQA-1
• Knowledge of machine design, selection of machine elements (bearings, seals, etc.) and machine controls (hydraulic, electrical, etc.)
• Mentoring specialty mechanical engineers and designers
• Communication of complex ideas to management and clients
• Creation and review of complex mechanical calculations
• Competent using discipline-specific technical software such as: SOLIDWORKS, Creo, ANSYS, etc.
• Competence using Microsoft Office software
• US citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ideal candidate would have 15+ years of experience
• Master’s degree is a plus
• DOE Q clearance is preferred but not required
• A person residing a commutable distance from our Oak Ridge, TN office

Work Environment:

• Primarily office-based work in a secure engineering environment
• Amentum office location is preferred; hybrid or remote work may be available by prior agreement based on role and project requirements
• Occasional exposure to industrial facilities, which may include elevated noise levels, hazardous materials, or controlled areas
• Site visits may be required

Essential Functions:

Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.

• U.S. Citizenship required (no dual citizenship)
• Valid driver's license is required
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
• Ability to pass pre-employment background investigation and drug screening
• Willingness to work overtime or outside normal hours as needed
• Professional appearance appropriate for a customer‑facing engineering environment
• Travel required: less than 10%

Compensation Details:

Compensation $110,000 - $160,000
