Job Title: Electrical Engineer – Power Distribution & Building Systems

Shift: First Shift / Full-Time Hybrid

Location: Greater Cleveland, OH Area (Initial on-site onboarding required before transitioning to hybrid)

Salary: $80,000 – $95,000 / year (Commensurate with experience; higher target available for candidates with direct MEP / Power Distribution design experience)

Important Role Clarification

This is a Building Power Systems Engineering position focused on AC Power Distribution (120V to 35kV) .

• Target Experience: Power distribution, branch circuiting, switchgear/panelboards, motor control centers, single-line diagrams, voltage drop, short-circuit calculations, and NEC code compliance.
• Non-Qualifying Experience: This role does not involve telecommunications cabling, Cat 5/Cat 6 structured wiring, network/data infrastructure, audio-visual, or low-voltage signaling/security systems. Candidates whose background is exclusively in IT or low-voltage communications cabling will not be considered.

Position Overview

A premier engineering solutions firm is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the design, analysis, and execution of low-voltage (120V–600V) and medium-voltage (1kV–35kV) electrical power distribution systems across all project phases.

This role involves performing core technical calculations, generating construction documents, drafting single-line diagrams, and coordinating power design scopes with multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Power & Lighting Design: Draft electrical one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, utility service layouts, power distribution plans, lighting plans, equipment schedules, and panelboard schedules.
• Engineering Calculations: Perform power demand, service sizing, transformer sizing, feeder/branch circuit sizing, voltage drop, and basic short-circuit, fault current, or protective device coordination studies.
• Project Execution: Support schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration phases across commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.
• Fieldwork & Travel: Travel up to 30% domestically for site visits, field verification, existing condition evaluations, utility coordination, and project meetings.
• Multidisciplinary Coordination: Work closely with senior electrical engineers, architects, mechanical/structural engineers, utility representatives, contractors, and clients.
• Quality & Compliance: Apply company standards, engineering procedures, QA/QC processes, and address drawing redlines, agency comments, and design revisions promptly.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET) from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Experience: 0–5 years of progressive electrical engineering experience within a consulting engineering (MEP), design-build, or facility power systems design environment.
• Power Systems Knowledge: Familiarity with AC building power distribution (120V, 208V, 480V, up to medium-voltage 35kV systems) and relevant building/power codes, including NEC (NFPA 70) and NFPA 70E.

Technical Software:

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).
• Direct experience or familiarity with Revit (Electrical) .
• Experience with lighting software (Visual, ElumTools) or electrical power calculation software (SKM Power*Tools, ETAP, or EasyPower) is a strong plus.

Credentials: Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) / Engineer Intern (EI) certification completed or actively in progress toward professional engineering licensure (PE tracking).

Professional Skills: Ability to interpret architectural, mechanical, structural, and electrical technical drawings; strong organizational, analytical, and written/verbal communication skills.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

• Standard office work environment with computer equipment operation.
• On-site fieldwork and site walkthroughs requiring standing, walking, and domestic travel up to 30%.
