Department & Position 37650 Advocate Lutheran General Hospital – Inpatient Rehabilitation Schedule & Pay Employment Type: Part time Hours Per Week: 0 (shifts vary by scheduling needs) Schedule Requirements: One weekend day every month, one holiday, one weekend day around the holiday Pay Range: $41.10 – $61.65 per hour Major Responsibilities Interpret physician referrals and complete musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and/or integumentary evaluations using appropriate methods. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on evaluation results, functional goals, and patient response, while providing status updates to physicians and teammates. Address factors affecting patient physical and psychosocial comfort and attend to these needs. Plan for and complete patient discharge, including written home programs, patient/family teaching, referrals for community services, transition planning, and equipment ordering as appropriate. Collaborate with stakeholders to achieve optimum patient care. Complete all required documentation per department policy and accreditation standards, including evaluations, progress notes, conference reports, and discharge summaries. Record patient care and progress, complete daily statistics, billing, and scheduling, and apply insurance guidelines regarding authorization and visit counts. Maintain clinic productivity standards and adhere to all billing and documentation procedures. Keep patient treatment areas clean and orderly, and perform manual techniques, patient positioning, and transport duties using proper lifting techniques. Demonstrate skill in use of modalities, exercise equipment, and other devices, including knowledge of indications and contraindications. Promote patient safety and follow infection control measures. Participate in performance improvement activities and quality initiatives. Manage assigned caseload, inform leadership of coverage needs, and assist with coverage as required. Pursue professional growth through continuing education, departmental in‑services, and literature review. Orient new staff to clinical and departmental policies and provide feedback during performance evaluations. Possibly supervise physical therapy assistants, extenders, or students, following all applicable regulations. Minimum Job Requirements Education Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution or educational qualifications commensurate with the date of graduation, and maintenance of continuing education requirements per state standards. Certification / Registration / License Licensed Physical Therapist in the state of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (obtained within 90 days, unless otherwise determined). Work Experience No prior experience required. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Intermediate computer skills. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities. Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills. Successful completion of all competency assessments and site standards for patient care. Understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and ability to assess and interpret age‑specific data. Annual educational requirements for relevant hospital‑based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF). Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, and squat throughout the workday. Lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist and up to 10 lbs. from waist to overhead. Carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height over a reasonable distance. Push/pull with up to 30 lbs. of force. Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present. Repetitive hand use: simple grasping (5‑15 lbs.) 20% of the workday; pushing/pulling 10% of the time; fine manipulation during massage and joint mobilization. Functional use of senses for effective communication. Exposure to electrical and chemical hazards, blood, and body fluids; requires protective clothing. Potential travel exposing operator to road and weather hazards. Operate all equipment necessary for the job.
