Electrician Specialist

About This Job Our mission is to ensure the physical, operational, and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state, and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction. Minimum Qualifications Two years of required experience in on‑the‑job experience. Three years of experience or training in the electrical trade. Job Duties Install, alter, maintain, and repair wiring systems for vertical gates, record surveillance systems, communication radios, interior and exterior lights, electric taps, exhaust fans, and other electrical fixtures and equipment associated with buildings. Perform electrical inspections of electrical equipment, switchgear controls, and appliances. Replace electrical components on control systems and perform some mechanical work in replacing and repairing parts. Troubleshoot, repair, and install electrical motor starters, related switchgear, and controls. Ensure the operational ability of sector gates, operate floodgates, generators, and bridges, and inspect for operational deficiencies. Maintain and make minor repairs to mechanical and electrical equipment on gates and movable bridges. Maintain generators used to operate the floodgates and perform minor repairs as required. Operate floodgates, generators, and bridges, and inspect for operational deficiencies. Perform minor maintenance on all equipment assigned to them. Install and make repairs on nonmetallic cables (Romex, conduits (Greenfield), and thin‑wall or rigid conduit). Must be able to bend pipe for specific job sites as requested. Ensure operational ability of vertical drop, fuel distribution, air compressors, programmable logic controls, and generators. Document inspections and repairs in accordance with USACE Operations and Maintenance Manual. Position‑Specific Details Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, Lateral Transfer, Detail to Special Duty, or Job Appointment. Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group. Work Schedule: Full‑time (40‑hour work week). Offers a schedule of four 10‑hour days, Monday – Thursday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm. Compensation: Full‑time employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including participation in the state’s retirement plan, health insurance, agency‑paid short‑term disability coverage, paid holidays, and paid annual and sick leave. NOTES: Perform other duties or assignments as directed by supervisor or higher‑ranking personnel. The incumbent is on a 24‑hour call and will be required to report for work and remain there in case of emergency until such emergency subsides. May be required to work at the Lake Borgne Barrier safe house or PCCP or operate floodgates for protection during a storm‑related or emergency event, along with placing and removing stop logs during high water emergencies. Also, may include making sandbags, placing, and removing sandbags whenever needed.
