Director of Extended Learning & Community Programs

Job Overview The Director Extended Learning will provide leadership and direction over the operation of a non‑profit enterprise business whereby revenues must be generated to cover all the operating expenditures, while providing extended learning opportunities in support of the District's mission. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership Direct the operational and programmatic aspects related to Extended Learning program(s) Develop and implement policies, procedures and guidelines for Extended Learning program(s), systems and projects Develop other Extended Learning opportunities including summer camps and community education for adults Facilitate the construction, maintenance and repair of the program(s)’ physical spaces Plan, organize and direct activities of department staff Originate and provide input for new and innovative program initiatives; assist with long‑ and short‑term planning for the Extended Learning Department Work in collaboration to develop and deliver training to staff Participate in national, state, and local conventions, seminars, meetings, and workshops as appropriate Provide leadership to direct reports and subordinates Communication and Collaboration Interface with Human Resources and Legal Departments as necessary to address personnel issues Collaborate with campus principals to ensure Extended Learning programs are valued, integral asset to the campus Participate in District wide meetings and interface regularly with other departments in the District Plan and implement promotion and public relations programs to publicize all Extended Learning programs Work collaboratively to ensure that programs are staffed Communicate regularly with staff, parents, and children, members of the public, school administrators and district staff to foster a team approach Actively market the department’s programs to recruit and retain potential customers and staff Compliance and Budget Coordinate and manage the financial operation of the program(s) Prepare annual budget for expenditures, including personnel and projected revenue Supervisory Responsibilities Participate in recruiting, interviewing and hiring staff members Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff Resolve staff problems and administer staff progressive discipline Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. Bachelor's Degree preferred Master's Degree preferred Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal Certification preferred Supervisory Certification preferred Minimum of 5 years of documented leadership experience Minimum of 3 years of budgetary and supervisory experience Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience preferred Demonstrated knowledge in teaching, administration, youth or adult organizations Proficient in general computing skills, including MS Office Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both orally and in writing Demonstrated ability to lead in a positive manner Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in all Extended Learning program areas Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic and growing work environment Ability to problem solve and effectively communicate and resolve conflicts Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to plan and implement programs, contests, exhibits, and presentations Efficient organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with the public, district staff and district administration Physical Requirements/Working Conditions The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties.
