HVAC Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Worker

The HVAC Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) worker maintains, cleans, and sanitizes all air-moving systems and equipment across district facilities. This role ensures an optimal, healthy indoor learning environment by performing preventative maintenance, replacing filtration components, and restoring system airflow efficiently.

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
• License Requirements: Apprentice Electrician License preferred. Valid driver's license with a clean driving history, eligible to operate company vehicles.
• Certifications: EPA Universal Certification is preferred but not required. Proficiency with digital work order software and a broad understanding of HVAC systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform repairs in all areas, including but not limited to replacing filters, HVAC condensate lines & drains, installing new condensate piping, blowing out and unclogging condensate drain lines, vacuuming pans, disconnect/reconnect electrical, changing belts, cleaning coils, repairing ductwork, cleaning maintenance rooms and mechanical yards, etc. Recommend supplies and equipment to be purchased to ensure campus/vehicle is kept clean and fully stocked to meet the repair needs of the district. Attend training sessions as assigned. Must be able to understand and apply all written and oral instructions and directions. Report any other deficiencies at campus/job site.
• Perform scheduled inspections and replacements of all HVAC air filters to maintain proper airflow and indoor air cleanliness. Clean and sanitize evaporator and condenser coils using specialized brushes, vacuums, and approved chemical solutions. Clean and maintain belts, bearings, drip pans, and drain lines to prevent biological growth, standing water, and structural damage. Clean and organize mechanical rooms, equipment housing, related air ductwork, and outdoor mechanical yards. Measure and report on air distribution performance, airflow restrictions, and equipment wear.
• Assist other craftsmen and maintenance team members on large-scale projects or emergency system repairs as assigned. Use a tablet, iPad, or computer to manage, update, and complete daily digital work orders within designated time frames.

Safety Procedures:

• Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
• Adhere to all guidelines set forth in MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) when handling chemicals.
• Wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when performing any task that could cause injury or illness.
• Take necessary action immediately and report any condition that could cause injury or illness.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing, etc.
• Must wear district-issued uniform while at work and return all uniforms prior to your last day of employment. The cost for uniforms will be deducted from final paycheck.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Continuous standing, walking, bending, climbing, crouching, pushing, and pulling. Comfort working in restricted spaces, crawlspaces, attics, and elevated surfaces like rooftops and ladders. Ability to withstand varying temperatures while working outdoors in mechanical yards or on rooftops.
