We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to provide part-time financial support for a nonprofit church organization in Capitola, California. This contract opportunity offers an initial schedule of 15 hours per week, typically 5 hours per day from Tuesday through Thursday. The person in this role will help maintain accurate financial records, manage routine accounting activities, and support continuity through a brief knowledge-transfer period.
Responsibilities:• Maintain the organization’s financial records by entering checks, donations, and other daily transactions with accuracy.
• Reconcile bank accounts on a regular basis to ensure balances, deposits, and payments are properly documented.
• Process accounts payable activities, including reviewing invoices and preparing timely payments.
• Record charitable contributions and other receipts in the bookkeeping system while keeping supporting documentation organized.
• Assist with a short cross-training period to ensure a smooth handoff of recurring bookkeeping duties.
• Monitor financial entries for completeness and follow up on discrepancies when needed.
• Support part-time accounting operations on a Tuesday through Thursday schedule, averaging 15 hours each week.• Hands-on experience performing bookkeeping duties in a detail-focused setting.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks and confidence navigating day-to-day accounting tasks within the system.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable processes and accurate payment handling.
• Experience completing bank reconciliations and resolving variances.
• Ability to record financial transactions carefully, including checks and donation activity.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain organized and reliable records.
• Availability to work approximately 15 hours per week, typically 5 hours per day from Tuesday through Thursday.
