POSITION
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Education Specialist to provide specialized instruction and support to students with special needs, ensuring they receive a high-quality education that meets their individual needs. This role will require a deep understanding of special education principles, effective teaching methodologies, and a commitment to student success. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing high-quality education to our students, fostering a positive learning environment, and collaborating with colleagues to achieve our school’s goals. Requirements:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Specialized Instruction:
- Deliver tailored instruction that addresses the unique learning styles and needs of students with special needs, utilizing a variety of teaching methods and assistive technologies.
- Provide individual and small group support to students as needed.
- Work to create a positive learning environment in accordance with school policies and procedures.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to engage students and promote critical thinking.
- Adjust instructional plans accordingly to ensure optimal outcomes.
- Adapt instruction as needed to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Implement behavior management strategies and de-escalation techniques as needed.
- Resolve student conflicts effectively and promote positive resolution of disagreements.
- Use data to inform student support
Individualized Education Program (IEP) Development:
- Collaborate with students, parents, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive IEPs that outline specific educational goals and strategies.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws as it relates to special education
- Coordinate results of assessments with service providers and the Director of Special Education and Wellness to prepare a multi-disciplinary team report at each initial or triennial review.
- Compile and maintain records, such as attendance, behavior, and academic data to progress monitor and report on meeting IEP goals.
Assessment and Feedback:
- Assess student progress regularly and provide individualized support and interventions as needed.
- Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Provide timely and informative feedback to students on their work.
- Identify and address student academic and social-emotional needs.
Communication:
- Maintain open and professional communication with students, parents, and school staff.
- Conduct regular parent-teacher calls and conferences to discuss student progress and address both, positive student behavior and potential concerns.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues to share information, resources, and best practices.
- Communicate professionally with administrators, network staff, and other stakeholders.
Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with the school's administrative and support staff to ensure student success.
- Participate in team meetings, and professional development and collaborate with other teachers to ensure continuity of instruction.
- Work closely with parents, administrators, and other school staff to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives and committees to contribute to the overall success of the school.
Professional Development:
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities to stay current with best practices in special education.
- Stay current on best practices in education and child development.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Work effectively across diverse communities.
- Manage various projects and/or demands demonstrating flexibility and effective time-management skills.
Administrative Tasks:
- Advocate for the rights and needs of students with special needs, both within the school and in the broader community.
- Oversee student safety and well-being during class time, recess, and lunch periods.
- Enforce school rules and procedures consistently.
- Be familiar with and follow school emergency procedures, including lockdown, fire drills, and evacuation plans.
Perform other duties, as assigned.

- Knowledge of public education and charter school movement, preferred.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
- California teaching credential or ability and willingness to obtain a California teaching permit/credential if not already credentialed.
- 1+ years of experience working at school sites or experience working with children/youth, preferred.
- Strong classroom management skills and ability to build rapport with students.
- Demonstrated mastery of special education principles.
- Ability to follow established routines and procedures.
- Employment eligibility that includes fingerprinting, tuberculosis, and/or other employment clearances.
- Previous experience in charter schools, preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.
- Bending at the waist, kneeling, and/or crouching to file materials.
- Ability to access and navigate various facilities within the organization.
- Occasional lifting of objects up to twenty pounds.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $72,500 - $81,500. Salary is commensurate with experience, education, and expertise. A competitive benefits package is also offered.
