Credit & Underwriting Manager

The Credit & Underwriting Manager is responsible for leading iThrive's client underwriting and debtor credit functions, ensuring disciplined credit decisions that enable profitable growth while protecting the company's capital. This leader develops the team, governs credit policies and processes, and partners across Sales, Client Services, Operations, and Executive Leadership to deliver timely, consistent, and scalable credit decisions.

Responsibilities: 

• Manage, lead and develop underwriters and debtor credit analysts.
• Participate as an underwriter of new business opportunities.
• Ensure the proper assessment of risk with regard to debtor credit exposures and new client approvals.
• Support Client Services with escalated credit and underwriting matters.
• Own and create credit policy and process documentation.
• Develop and maintain a Debtor Credit Matrix and related approval guidance.
• Establish a risk scoring model to assess Debtor Portfolio Risk.
• Provide exceptional support to the Client Services team and Clients and ensure timely response to debtor credit requests.
• Perform regular review of departmental vendors ensuring that service is maximized while controlling cost for service.
• Work with management to develop and capture critical data points which would potentially identify red flags which result in loss to iThrive.
• Conduct regular department meetings with staff to ensure departmental communication of goals and initiatives.
• Provide exceptional support to the Sales team and ensure timely review and approval of new business opportunities.
• Ensure all approved clients are accurately established through legal document completion, buyout coordination, and system setup before transitioning to Client Services for onboarding.
• Manage departmental vendors and operating expenses to ensure efficient use of resources while supporting departmental objectives.
• Identify opportunities to improve underwriting and debtor credit through technology, automation, data analysis, and process redesign.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Required knowledge of freight factoring and/or financial services, commercial lending or banking.
• Preferred 2 years’ experience in Factoring.
• Experience in basic accounting/reconciling processes and procedures.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to independently resolve client and employee concerns.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with data analysis and reporting development.
• Experience establishing and managing KPI’s.
• Attention to detail.
• Self-guided with a strong bias for action.
• Team player with strong interpersonal and team building skills.
