Job Description Perform routine tasks associated with food preparation, serving, and cleanup. May also include operating a cash register (POS) for sales. The work involves preparing breakfast and lunch meals for school populations. Operate various industrial kitchen equipment used in food preparation. Maintain sanitary working areas. Document records of food temperatures and food amounts. Maintain inventory in refrigerated and dry storage areas. Maintain linens used in the department. Responsibilities Prepare meals by following menus, measuring ingredients, handling uncooked and unprepared food items, operating can openers, retrieving cooking instruments, wrapping food, cleaning countertops, removing food from refrigerators, walk‑in coolers and dry storage areas, operating industrial kitchen equipment, moving cooked food, opening containers, storing food in storage containers/racks, placing and removing food items in and out of ovens, maintaining adequate cooking times and temperatures. Serve meals by moving industrial containers of food to the serving line, replacing food containers, using carts to transport food items, serving food items to customers while standing on the serving line. Store food items used in food preparation by unloading delivery vehicles, staging or storing in dry storage areas, refrigerators, walk‑in coolers and freezers, using step ladders if needed. Operate cash register to complete sales by using a scanner, counting money, providing accurate change, recording sales in POS system. Maintain clean and safe work areas by mopping floors, cleaning countertops, sweeping, dust‑mopping floors, operating washer and dryer to clean linens, cleaning bathroom, discarding trash, using cleaning chemicals. Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor, including lifting, pulling, pushing, grasping, twisting, reaching below and overhead, standing for long periods, squatting, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing. Qualifications Ability to follow oral and written communications. Ability to learn and follow prescribed preparation, meal service, clean‑up, sanitation, and safety methods. Ability to inventory and record information accurately. Personal standards of appearance and dress in line with Barnwell County School District Food and Nutrition Services standards. Ability to wear latex food handler gloves. Physical fitness to perform assigned duties. Ability to lift and move 35‑50 lbs. repetitively. Preferred Qualifications HS Diploma. Experience in the food services field desirable. Effective oral and written communication skills.
