Job Description Nevada State University invites applications for the position ofAssistant/Associate Professor of Teacher Education - LiteracyEducation to start either Spring 2027 or Fall 2027, negotiated uponoffer. The Assistant/Associate Professor will contribute to programdevelopment and academic leadership. Qualified candidates may beconsidered for program director or department chairresponsibilities. Candidates should be able to teach literacy methods courses,particularly courses with a focus on emergent literacy development,and content literacy courses with a focus on reading to learn.Candidate should be prepared to teach foundational literacy coursesaddressing phonics, phonemic awareness, and evidence-based earlyreading instruction. More than1,200 undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate students arepursuing licensure programs in elementary and secondary, specialeducation, as well as speech-language pathology and schoolpsychology. Primary Responsibilities: Teach 24 credits per academic year, which amounts to fourcourses per semester. Teach lower- and upper-level courses in Teacher Education andLiteracy in a variety of formats (e.g., in-person, hybrid, online).Approximately half of this instructional load will be dedicated tocore courses in the literacy curriculum. Fulfill service obligations to the School of Education, NevadaState University, our local community as well as thediscipline-specific professional community. Serve on departmental and college-wide committees. Engage in scholarly activity within your discipline or in thescholarship of teaching and learning. Required Qualifications: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, TeacherEducation or a related field (Candidates who are ABD will beconsidered with the expectation that the Ph.D. or Ed.D. will becompleted by December 31, 2026 for a Spring 2027 start date or byJune 30, 2027 for a Fall 2027 start date). At least three (3) years teaching literacy in a K-5setting. Certification or eligibility for certification in Nevada. Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence, teacherpreparation, and student success. Demonstrated dedication to or interest in working with adiverse student population. Commitment to teaching literacy/methods courses. Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship(Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas). Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching early childhood literacy. Commitment to teach literacy/methods courses. Expertise in curriculum mapping and program development. Experience advising undergraduate pre-service teachers,school-university partnerships, and contributing to programassessment, and accreditation processes. Experience with program mapping and program development. Experience in web-based learning management systems (NevadaState uses Canvas) and multiple course modalities (online, hybrid,in-person). Experience with (or desire to teach) online, hybrid, or eveningclasses. Research expertise in early, adolescent, or disciplinaryliteracy. Rank, Salary & Benefits: 9-month. Tenure or Tenure Track.
