APPRENTICE
Craftsman Electric
Description The Apprentice works alongside experienced electricians to help install, repair, and maintain electrical systems safely and correctly. Apprentices learn the trade by doing hands-on work in the field, following directions, using the right tools, and keeping job sites clean and safe. This role is part of the IEC Apprenticeship Program and requires ongoing training, classroom instruction, and skill development.

Electrical Work & Jobsite Support
- Take part in daily job huddles to understand the plan, safety concerns, and daily tasks.
- Work alongside journeymen and foremen to install, service, and repair electrical systems.
- Follow directions from project leadership and ask questions when unsure.
- Complete assigned tasks safely and correctly; may work independently on simple jobs as skills grow.
- Help install new electrical systems, upgrades, and add-ons according to drawings and NEC code.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues under supervision, including older or existing systems.
- Use proper safety procedures at all times, including PPE and lockout/tagout.
- Keep the job site clean, organized, and safe by removing debris, marking hazards, and protecting equipment.
- Use company systems to review job details and record accurate as-built information.
- Coordinate with other trades when needed to keep work moving and avoid delays.
- Follow all company safety rules and jobsite requirements.
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Speak up if something looks unsafe or if you are unsure how to perform a task.
- Protect yourself, your coworkers, and the customer by working safely every day.
- Maintain active enrollment and good standing in the IEC Apprenticeship Program.
- Attend all required IEC classes and complete coursework on time.
- Participate in internal training, study tables, and hands-on learning opportunities.
- Work with the Workforce Training & Development Coordinator to:
- Keep certifications current
- Submit required paperwork and documentation
- Stay on track for apprenticeship progression
- Accept feedback and coaching from supervisors and apply it on the job.
- Work is done safely, neatly, and correctly
- You show up on time, prepared, and ready to work
- You follow instructions and take responsibility for learning
- You improve your skills each year in the apprenticeship
- You are dependable, respectful, and a positive part of the crew
