Description SUMMARY The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal conditions. This role requires a deep understanding of orthopedic imaging, patient safety protocols, and advanced MRI technology. The MRI Technologist will work closely with radiologists, orthopedic surgeons, physician assistants, and other medical staff to ensure that imaging studies provide accurate and detailed diagnostic information. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills to deliver the highest quality in imaging and patient services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties may be assigned) Perform high-quality MRI scans following established protocols and physician orders. Prepare and position patients to ensure optimal image quality while prioritizing patient comfort and safety. Screen patients for contraindications such as implanted medical devices or metal objects. Administer contrast agents as needed, following safety guidelines and physician directives. Operate and maintain MRI equipment, ensuring proper functionality and performing routine quality control checks. Monitor patients during imaging procedures, recognizing and responding to any adverse reactions or complications. Maintain accurate patient records, documenting procedures, imaging results, and any relevant clinical information. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards. Collaborate with radiologists, orthopedic physicians, and medical staff to review images and ensure diagnostic accuracy. Educate patients about the MRI procedure, addressing any concerns or questions they may have. Follow safety protocols related to MRI environments, including maintaining a magnetically safe workspace. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE AND EXPERIENCE Experience: Minimum of 1-3 years of experience performing MRI scans, preferably in an orthopedic or musculoskeletal imaging setting. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program. Certification: Certified MRI Technologist (ARRT or equivalent), CPR/AED certification. Knowledge: Familiarity with various MRI systems and software, such as GE, Siemens, or Philips MRI scanners. Knowledge of DICOM imaging standards and PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) for storing and retrieving MRI images. SKILLS/ABILITIES Proficiency in operating MRI scanners and related imaging software. Strong knowledge of anatomy, particularly musculoskeletal structures. Ability to recognize and address image artifacts or technical issues. Excellent patient care and communication skills, ensuring a positive experience for individuals undergoing scans. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow imaging protocols with precision. Knowledge of MRI safety guidelines, including screening procedures and contrast administration. Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, radiologists, and medical staff. Strong organizational and multitasking skills to manage patient scheduling and imaging workflows. Basic computer skills for electronic medical record (EMR) documentation and image processing. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Speaking: Must be able to clearly communicate in person and over the telephone. Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient (if applicable) and reading information from printed sources and computer screens. Other: Requires frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required. Adequate physical ability includes sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care service needed. Requires frequent bending, reaching and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting with some heavy lifting, pushing and pulling. WORK ENVIORNMENT While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to risk of infectious diseases and bodily fluids when interacting with patients and/or family members. The employee may be occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
