Food Service Worker

The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a Food Service Worker to provide healthy, safe and sanitary meals to the students and staff of the school, with friendly customer service. This is an 11-month position (paid over 12 months) with full state benefits. Working hours are 6:00am – 2:30pm, Monday through Friday. Responsibilities include:

• Assisting with the preparation and serving of meals
• Cleaning the dining and kitchen areas
• Washing dishes
• Receiving food orders
• Putting stock in correct storage places

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to follow oral and written instruction
• Proficiency level of Novice in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years
• Ability to lift 35-50 pounds
• Ability to perform repetitive motion to include standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking, bending and climbing. Ability to tolerate varied temperatures

Additional Considerations:

• Prefer general knowledge in meal service
• Prefer general knowledge in food preparation
• Prefer knowledge in food equipment and cleaning supplies
