What You'll Do

As a Senior Product Engineer at Feit Electric, you will lead the design, prototyping, approval, and launch of new lighting and connected home products within your assigned category. You will act as the engineering lead — ensuring that all products meet stringent customer requirements and quality standards — while serving as a change agent who applies AI tools across the product development lifecycle to accelerate cycle time, elevate quality, and continuously improve how we engineer. You will also mentor Product Engineers, guiding them to maintain high standards in product development and to adopt AI-enabled workflows. Daily collaboration with factories, product managers, sales, graphics, and purchasing teams is essential to ensure products are delivered on time and meet all company and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

• Product Development: Design and develop products that comply with regulatory and UL-certified safety standards, meet customer specifications, and are launched on time and within budget.
• Project Management: Accurately manage and track project progress to ensure timely completion. Address technical challenges through a structured phase-gate process.
• Technical Accountability: Validate, test, and approve products using rigorous DV and FAA procedures. Verify and approve UL/ETL safety reports to ensure products meet both customer and regulatory compliance.
• Innovation: Identify new technologies — including emerging AI capabilities — that can enable innovative new products and improved engineering practices.
• Communication: Maintain frequent communication with supply partners to quickly resolve any issues and ensure project objectives are met.
• Documentation: Ensure the accuracy of user manuals, product labeling, and engineering specifications for all printed materials.
• Regulatory Compliance: Maintain a deep understanding of regulatory standards, including Title 20, Title 24, Energy Star, DLC, UL Standards, and ANSI. Stay informed about emerging technologies that could impact product development.

AI-Enabled Continuous Improvement

• AI as a Productivity Multiplier: Apply AI tools across the product development workflow — design analysis, compliance review, ECO triage, and root-cause analysis on field returns.
• Compliance Velocity: Use AI to accelerate UL, FCC, DOE, Energy Star, and Title 20/24 document review, shortening certification cycle time on every new SKU.
• First-Pass Design Quality: Leverage AI-driven circuit, thermal, and photometric analysis to reduce prototype iterations and BOM cost.
• Predictive Quality Intelligence: Apply AI pattern detection on test data and field returns to surface failure modes before products hit retail.
• Engineering Knowledge Automation: Use AI to generate and maintain ECOs, parse supplier specs, and convert tribal engineering knowledge into searchable, reusable assets.
• Change Agent: Identify, evaluate, and pilot emerging AI capabilities relevant to engineering workflows. Build playbooks, prompts, and lightweight automations that allow the broader team to adopt proven AI practices.
• Judgment Over Output: Critically evaluate AI-generated suggestions against UL standards, engineering principles, and manufacturability constraints. Distinguish reliable AI output from confidently-wrong results.
• Process Improvement: Continuously improve the New Product Development process by combining AI capabilities with disciplined engineering practice.

Mentorship & Leadership

• Mentoring: Serve as a mentor to Product Engineers, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality product development and effective adoption of AI-enabled workflows.
• Design Reviews: Oversee and lead Design Reviews for all engineering team members within your product family, ensuring adherence to standards at each Stage-Gate exit.
• Knowledge Sharing: Regularly share knowledge and perspectives — including AI workflows, prompts, and best practices — with stakeholders to promote a collaborative and informed working environment.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Experience

• 7+ years of experience in new product development and project management in an individual contributor role.
• Demonstrated experience applying AI/LLM tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) to engineering or product development tasks.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.

Technical Skills

• Strong organizational and analytical skills with a proven ability to manage multiple urgent projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across different departments.
• Deep understanding of technical concepts, including electrical specifications, LED drivers, lighting systems, schematics, installations, and wiring diagrams. Ability to provide sound design recommendations.
• Proficient in using Asana for project management and the MS Office Suite.
• Familiarity with DMM, Oscilloscopes, and both DC & AC Power Supply design.
• LED lighting experience is highly preferred.

AI Competence

• Proficient with general-purpose AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, or equivalent) for daily engineering work.
• Skilled at prompt engineering — able to frame the right questions to get useful, validated engineering outputs from AI tools.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted document parsing, spec extraction, test-report drafting, and code/script generation for test automation.
• Comfortable building lightweight workflows or automations (no-code, Python, or scripting) that combine AI with internal data and tools.
• Strong judgment to validate AI output against engineering standards, UL/safety requirements, and real-world manufacturability.
• Curiosity and self-direction to pilot new AI capabilities and translate proven practices into team-wide standards.

Essential Physical Demands

• Ability to work on-site, with prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a computer monitor.
• Hands-on involvement in testing prototype products.
• Ability to lift and carry objects over 50 pounds, and to push and pull heavy items as required.
• Comfortable performing physical tasks such as standing, bending, kneeling, sitting, and reaching.
• Adherence to safety protocols and maintaining a clean working environment.

• Pay Data: Salary Range $90,000.00 to $120,000.00 base salary (exempt). This role is eligible for a discretionary year-end bonus. Final compensation will be determined based on candidate qualifications, experience, and market conditions.
