Senior Scientist I, LNP Platform

AbbVie seeks a Senior Scientist I to lead lipid nanoparticle formulation and process development for nucleic acid therapeutics at its Worcester facility. The role combines independent project leadership with hands-on laboratory work and mentorship of junior scientists.

Responsibilities

• Independently design, lead, and manage novel technical projects for LNP formulation, conjugation, purification, and process development
• Design and execute DOE-based experiments to optimize LNP formulations and associated manufacturing processes
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior and associate scientists on experimental design and troubleshooting
• Lead root-cause investigations for process variability or formulation performance issues and recommend corrective actions
• Prepare technical documentation including reports, protocols, batch records, and SOPs with clear scientific rationale

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree with 10 years experience, or Master's with 8 years, or PhD with any experience level
• Demonstrated expertise in LNP formulation development and nucleic acid delivery systems
• Proven ability to independently lead formulation or process development projects from concept to completion
• Experience troubleshooting complex formulation and process challenges with scientific rigor
• Track record mentoring junior scientists or providing technical guidance in matrix leadership
• Strong project management and cross-functional communication skills
• Proficiency in design-of-experiments methodology and data analysis
