Position Overview This position is responsible for supervising technical personnel in obtaining accurate survey measurements for preparing plans for roads, bridges, and culverts and for the preparation of land acquisition plats and documents. Essential Functions Reviews survey data from district and consultant survey crews for completeness and accuracy using Bentley Open Roads Designer, Trimble Business Center, and TopoDOT. Produces terrain models with Bentley Open Roads Designer for use by design engineers in phase I or phase II design work. Collects and reviews data for horizontal and vertical accuracy. Provides training for district survey crews on Bentley Open Roads Designer. Provides training to consultant survey crews on district policies regarding point numbering, point codes, and line coding. Researches new projects for historical survey and plan horizontal and vertical information. Assists the district Chief of Surveys with handling data to and from aerial survey staff and consultants. Coordinates and assists crew personnel in collecting survey data accurately and on time. Serves as Chief of Surveys in the absence of the district Chief. Supervises a survey crew in field data collection. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Current registration as a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Illinois. Four years of experience in the practice of land surveying. Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of land surveying principles and practices. Considerable knowledge of surveying standards and/or plats and plans preparation. Considerable knowledge of modern surveying equipment and methods. Ability to supervise staff engaged in field or office surveying functions. Considerable knowledge of Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CAD) workstations. Knowledge of the Global Positioning System. Conditions of Employment Requires a valid driver’s license. Requires the ability to pass a background check. Requires outdoor work in a variety of conditions, including active construction sites, drilling sites, and roads open to traffic.
