Controls Engineer (Robotics & Warehouse Automation)

Position Overview
We are seeking a Controls Engineer to design, implement, and commission control systems for robotics and warehouse automation projects. The role focuses on developing PLC and motion-control software, integrating autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), configuring robot controllers and industrial networks, and supporting on-site commissioning and troubleshooting. The Controls Engineer will work closely with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to deliver reliable, safe, and high-performance automation solutions that improve warehouse throughput and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop control system architectures for robotics, AMRs, and warehouse automation solutions.
• Program PLCs and motion controllers using ladder logic, structured text, function block diagrams, and related languages.
• Integrate and program industrial robots and AMR systems; implement robot motion, path planning, and safety zones.
• Configure and troubleshoot industrial networks and fieldbus protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.).
• Create and maintain HMI/SCADA screens, control logic documentation, and electrical schematics.
• Lead factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, and startup activities at customer sites.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting during installation and after deployment to minimize downtime.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical/mechanical engineers, and software teams to meet project scope, schedule, and quality requirements.
• Develop test plans, perform system integration testing, and implement continuous improvement recommendations.
• Ensure automation solutions comply with safety standards and industry best practices (e.g., machine safety, lockout/tagout, functional safety).

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related field; Masters degree preferred.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in controls engineering for industrial automation, robotics, or warehouse systems.
• Proven experience with PLC platforms (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent) and motion controllers.
• Experience programming or integrating industrial robots and AMRs; familiarity with ROS or vendor-specific robot controllers is a plus.
• Strong understanding of industrial networking and communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, OPC UA).
• Experience with HMI/SCADA development and electrical schematics (AutoCAD or EPLAN experience is a plus).
• Field commissioning and troubleshooting experience in warehouse or material handling environments.
• Familiarity with safety standards and implementation of safety systems (e.g., safety PLCs, light curtains, safety PLC programming).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, effective verbal and written communication, and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites for commissioning and support; valid drivers license.
